Often in these cases they didn’t. The government imminent domained the property and let the houses and occupants stay. There are some Indian tribes that own city property that offer 99 year leases. You ‘own’ the house, but not the land (Palm Springs CA being the most notable).
You need to send that to Rush and Drudge.
How ‘bout this? If ObamaCare was fully in place, would Obama be instructing Sebelius to inflict “maximum pain” in the hospitals, too?
In the case of the Forest Service, the people there serve as a vehicle to get fire money.
The wood may not be commercially valuable, but the USFS can go to Congress and say they need $X million to fight the forest fire - there are 200, or however many, families with homes in the forest.
In many cases, the people were there first, and then the Congress declared it a national park or national forest.
Now evicting people from their homes isn’t right at all.

It was actually yesterday’s thought — posted several times.
Often, it WASN’T Federal Land when they built it. But the land got appropriated by Club Fed, and as a “concession” to the previous owners, they are allowed to “lease” the land for a nominal fee. . .
It would be the military that would serve the eviction order and Obama has worked very hard to make sure that they never will.

There is no equal protection anymore! How can there be waivers and exemptions for some and not for all? Just another bastardization of the constitution, freedom and justice by the communist in the White Hut and his socialist conspirators in congress and the media.

the parking lot to the Mt Vernon estate of George Washington is barricaded: Mt Vernon is funded/owned and operated by a private group.
the roads leading to Mt Rushmore are barricaded - these roads are STATE roads, not federal.
the SIDEWALKS along the Vietnam Memorial wall are barricaded -
and the WW11 memorial - that the vets waited 60 YEARS for, was privately funded and run!
these are OPEN AIR memorials, not requiring full time park guards. It's COSTING more more money for all this guard/police/barricades than ever was spent on a part time patrol.
Even the park guards are ‘disgusted’

When these parks get set up - there are most often homes already within the new boundaries - they were there first.
The one I love the best is when, up in upper NY state when the Onondagas reclaimed some of their land, there were non-Indians with their homes that were now on Reservation land. They then paid property taxes to the reservation. A few years in, their taxes were raised and they screamed about it.
It was pointed out to them that if they wanted to, instead, pay their taxes to the state, they were welcome to - but when they discovered that the state bill would be many times more, they settled down.
I read of a place in Florida where people paid ground rent and put trailers on the property.
The owner sold the land and many of these trailers where more expensive top move than they were worth so they just left them there.
I guess I am a nut , but before I bought my home I had a title search to be sure I would own the land, I also made sure there were no codicils in the neighborhood.
I realize of course that all of us are at the mercy of a Government out of control that can do most anything it likes. American is no longer the land of the free if indeed it ever was.
Not disgusted enough to refuse these illegal orders. The first day, I got it, they were confused. But now that they see how awful, arbitrary, and unpopular, and in some cases in places the feds don't fund, they should refuse.
