after that incident we put iron gates across our arch that leads through the front courtyard to our front door. Keep them locked at all times now. Noone gets in unless we know they are coming.

No, I didn’t, but I have no means of knowing how invincible your gate is (e.g., can it be circumvented, can it be taken off its hinges?)
