I agree that some advertising is in order. However, let me throw something in that the media has ignored. What happens if the govt shuts down and nobody notices. I remember the lead up to the sequester cuts and how the world was going to come to an end. Here we are a year later and it's no big deal.
I think the Pubs will discover that the Rats and media have been drinking to much of their own Kool Aid. The media and Rats rewrote the history of the last shut down almost right from the begining as a huge loss for the Pubs. What did the Pubs lose? They got the budget under control and only lost 2 seats in the House. Dole wasn't going to beat clintoon, so it's not like they lost something they didn't have.
My concern from the getgo has been active duty military, social security and medicare. These things continue to get paid. What do I care if a bunch of govt employees, who are over paid and under worked, and overwhelmingly vote for Rats are laid off. I think after a couple weeks of a shut down that it is the Rats that will feel the pressure from their base. The Pub base works for a living what do we care if govt is closed.
We are going to win this battle. The Pubs are not over reaching. How is it unreasonable to delay a portion of obamacare when obama has already done that for special interests and the congress.
Most of those government workers are not the big shots from GS16 into the SES ranks.
Many of them are mechanics, clerks, and inspectors.
The national guard, for example, employs many civilian workers to keep their tanks, trucks, and weapons repaired and functional, since the actual Guard members are there only one weekend a month. Something like a tank requires and enormous amount of maintenance.
Not only will those folks get on the democrats’ backs, but they’ll also be letting go the people who are doing the actual work.
Alternatively 2006 Newt finally gave Clinton the CR he demanded, during the last of a number of shutdowns (it was the third) . This was after lots of beatings by media and entertainment on congress and esp Newt and House members got lots of angry phone calls. There was the joke about him doing it all over his seat on AF1 to that funeral.
More insulting all those Fed employees got back pay for the three weeks, and that four week of the blizzard. It cost a bunch extra $$$
On Rush AM this was spun as a huge success. Rush never recalls those details though.
But it was equivalent to Bohner passing Reids CR 'clean' after a shutdown of some time. But dont worry as that would be later spun as a victory too by Rush I am sure, if that was the way it goes.
There was no FNC or internet in those days though as there is now. Obama and Reid taking a apparent hard stand make it suspenseful for sure.

It is not unreasonable at all.
The problems is that the GOP is absolutely awful at getting their story out. Take right now, for example. They could have an ad buy on the air pretty quickly. There's no elections, sports, or anything that they'd be competing with.
So why don't they do it?
Couldn't agree more...They should have been doing this or getting the message out strongly to the public the minute that 0bama started doling out waivers to groups that supported him politically.
0care was not only jammed down our throats on a party line basis but 0bama has basically had it his way since then. In my view the GOP-e has really dropped the ball on this but it just may not have been unintentional, I don't trust them any further than I could throw Christie.

And if things go badly then the best play is the Vitter amendment for this short term CR.

I am guessing that if they are planning on anything like this they will wait until there actually is a shut down.
I'm fairly optimistic this time. The Pubs are holding all the cards. They've staked out a reasonable position. obama has made it clear he will negotiate with terrorists and terrorist states but not the elected representatives of our govt. reid is not offering any counter proposals.
I realize the Pub leadership has a history of caving when victory is close. However, the Tea Party has changed everything. That's why the Rats attack the Tea Party at every turn. The Rats know without the Tea Party the Pubs will give them whatever they want. The Rats figure they can destroy the Tea Party by winning this, but they will be the ones feeling the pressure.
The Pubs will be attacked in the media, but the Tea Party doesn't care.
Also, the response from the left any time someone speaks out against this program is to denigrate them, attack their character and the organizations that support them.
I believe Sen. Cruz and Sen. Lee did us a great service by keeping their cool when they were viciously attacked. They showed that the Tea Party backed reps are mature, sober adults. The next thing the Pubs have to learn is when individuals are attacked others have to quickly step forward and call out those doing the attacking and question their character.
I think the Tea Party has changed everything for the better. We will win this battle. obama has painted himself into a corner and when he does capitulate it will only be the start of dismantling obamacare.

Let me throw something out there, when negotiating a contract if the other side begins to feel pressure and has revealed they really need to get the deal done you begin adding demands. obama did this last time after misreading Bohener and the pressure on the Pubs to get a budget deal. We ended up with the sequester cuts.
When reid and obama come off the no negotiating and ask for just the medical device tax cuts the Pubs should look at not only putting in the delay, but for the sake of "fairness" the Vitter Ammendment.

We will know we've won the field when they respond with just the medical device tax cut, then the Pubs have to come back and win the battle.
The Rats have over played their hand. The market might decline. The press will blame the Pubs no matter what. The Pubs in DC will get uncomfortable questions and the media will play up how some govt employee is being hurt. However, give it a couple weeks, or even a month, and people will see we can function without them, then the Pubs win!
