Seventh Graders Now Expelled For Playing With Pellet Gun Off School Grounds
Hit and Run Blog ^ | September 24, 2013 | Ed Krayewski

Instead of pressing charges with the children, the concerned mother calling 911 should have got slapped with a false 911 call. (Technically she should have called the police line for non emergencies.)

What is the world coming to.... that kids can no longer be seen playing with plastic guns? I grew up doing that with my cousins since I was 4. It would be nice of the local governments steps in and seriously scolds the education administration.

.
they were shooting at kids waiting for the bus, not just amongst themselves.
.
you’d be pissed if your kids came home with airsoft welts from this bunch.

These school administrators think their authority extends to every corner. And if people don’t fight back, they will be right.

The coverage is a bit scanty; it isn’t clear, at best, that any actual mischief was going on. If it was, that might put another angle on the story. STILL, even if it was misbehavior and not blatantly criminal (i.e. shooting maliciously at people or property) this used to be something that was left to parents to take care of. Parents. Those old fashioned fuddy duddies who knew best. Not any more I guess!

or it can put the proverbial (or literal) eye out, if so. i missed this but i just took a quick look.

STILL. things like this used to often be taken care of at home with a “good whoopin’” and a stern lecture about how this is not loving your neighbor. And that would frequently suffice. Now they act like zombies blew into town and the SWAT squad has to be called.

oh please. Air soft welts???? Really that’s your biggest confer???? These children were in their own yard. If they upset some other little kiddies then have the parents come over and talk about it. SInce when do we call the police for this? Water balloons, snow balls, air soft guns. Goodness how wussified we have become

the most unfortunate thing about this is public schools all over this country have the same kind nazi liberals running them. If this kid was actually shooting BBs at other kids, he and his parents need their asses kicked.

So all I have to do to free my children from the Government Indoctrination Centers is have them shoot a couple .22LR rounds in front of school bureaucrats? Cool.

Parents aren’t allowed to handle it like when we were kids.

school investigation says they were shooting at kids waiting for the bus. not funny to some folks.

not defending asshat school officials and their freaky policies - just wouldn’t want my kids getting shot with these gadgets while going to school.

Yes, the whole damn country has become wussified, lawyered up, and “sensitive”.

PS We shot BB’s at each other all the time. Until we bought the Crossman pumps. Those mothers hurt.

A “School investigation” claims this but no other evidence that I can see points to this as being accurate. The 911 call that prompted the schools action was not about her child at the bus stop.

This is ridiculous.

We used to have bbs gun wars and shot at each other until we discovered better uses with our time.(girls)
And nobody “got their eye shot out”

The school doesn’t have authority over every square inch of public property the school buses go.

If anything it’s a police matter(assault) but a better solution would be the cops taking the punks to their parents house and given a stern reprimand.

Not expelled from school where if these a real punks it will seem like a vacation.

The only reason I can see the school system getting in volved is a bus getting plinked or a window pockmarked with errant bbs, otherwise it’s a parental matter, not a educational concern.

The 911 call didn't mention shooting at kids - she stated that he was "aiming" at a tree!

The "scewrel investigation" was PROBABLY one or two kids claiming to have been hit or thought they were shot at or some other BS claim - I will almost BET!

The school has NO authority over this kid on his property! PERIOD! Even IF he was shooting at kids at a bus stop. At BEST, they can complain to the police about his actions, but suspending a kid for playing with a gun on his own property is so far outside the realm of school authority, it actually amuses me that any CONSERVATIVE could think otherwise.

If ANY of you think the school has the right to suspend this kid for actions on his own property, during NON-school hours, then you are agreeing that the school has COMPLETE control over your kids at anytime they they feel that other students are affected! If this kid hurt another kid after school, on his own property, does the school have the right and authority to punish this kid for hurting another student? Of course not! This was a police incident at worst, but a parental issue COMPLETELY!

Exactly! The only caveat I see to that is if the school bus stop is somehow technically school property (like your mailbox belongs to you, but you have to obey the rules of the post office regarding your mailbox, at least if you want to get your mail).

As the parents of the other kids getting “plinked” at by the kids with the foam guns, I might not have been happy . . . for instance, if you had a timid seven-year-old getting shot at by older kids, that’s not a good thing. But that should have been parents taking care of it, or at the most, the police hauling the miscreats back home so the parents could take care of it.

Regardless, a year-long suspension is absurd. But the kids would probably be better off homeschooled, anyway.

“they were shooting at kids waiting for the bus, not just amongst themselves.....”you’d be pissed if your kids came home with airsoft welts from this bunch”

no matter

the kids were all together; the event happened on private property near the bus stop; no student there complained; no one complained of anyone being injured AND given the location

the behavior of the kids OFF of school property IS NOT in the schools jurisdiction, on their way to school or not

the kids are NOT wards of the state

if there is ANY issue to be made it is between the parents of the students and it is for them to act, NOT the f&^%$#ng school - none of their business, period

Instead of alternate school, myself and all my buddies would be sent to GITMO for all the stuff we used to do back in the day.

You’re missing the larger point, made by others; in the context of the situation it was nothing of the ffffng school’s business - the kids are not wards of the state with every behavior OFF of school property subject to sanction by the school!!!!!
