Righteous Anger at Leftist Partisanship
Illinois Review ^ | September 23, 2013 A.D. | John F. Di Leo

On Monday, September 16, 2013, a gunman entered the Washington Navy Yards and began a shooting rampage in which a dozen were killed and still more were wounded. As America watched in horror, President Barack Hussein Obama delivered a televised rant, attacking Republicans, conservatives, and of course, the law-abiding firearms owners who might have helped to stop the carnage, had they been allowed.

The National Rifle Association has a practice of not talking politics on the day that such events unfold. Even though such occasions are invariably excellent examples of the need for gun ownership by the law-abiding – in particular, the need for both open carry and concealed carry – both the Second Amendment lobbyists and most conservative politicians try to avoid political arguments during these shootings. They try to give the country time to absorb, time to breathe, sometimes time to mourn, before discussing the political implications.

Democrat politicians feel bound by no such rules of decorum. President Obama’s Monday speech shocked countless Americans with its naked partisanship, delivered while victims just blocks from the Capitol were still on the brink between life and death, while emergency responders were still combing the buildings for perpetrators, transporting the wounded to neighborhood hospitals. A topic for the week, for awhile equal in volume to the coverage of the shooting itself, was how peculiar it was to hear such rank partisanship and vitriol in the very hour in which real Americans were coming together in mourning and shock.

But why were they surprised? The president saw what he considered an opportunity, for his base at least, to land some blows below the belt. There are no Marquis of Queensberry rules for the American Left; if they have a chance to attack, they will attack, and they will see nothing wrong with it.

Consider:

Despite clear evidence that early release of violent prisoners leads to virtual certainty of repeat offenses, the Left continues to weaken the criminal justice system so that violent offenders can be released into their communities. The Left’s hatred of individual responsibility – and its corollary, individual punishment – just trumps the interests of the victims. No modern liberal is saddened by the fact that their policies have turned our cities into shooting galleries; their primary goal of making the statistical distribution of our prisons mirror the ethnic makeup of our nation trumps such petty concerns as the lives of the poor people who live in the inner cities.

Despite the evidence of decades of economists that every hike in the minimum wage increases unemployment, the Left still screams for increases – sometimes massive ones – in the legally mandated minimum wage. They couldn’t care less about the millions left unemployed by these mandates; they’ll just blame “the evil rich” for those job losses, and enjoy the adulation of the unions whose automatic raises are tied to this pernicious spur… even though it’s like raising nutritious crops with Soylent Green for fertilizer.

To preserve everyone’s imagined rights to free love and privacy “without consequence,” the Left continues to protect the policy of abortion-on-demand, happily sacrificing a million American lives per year in its service. If a million lives being snuffed out in clinics and corrupted hospitals don’t give them pause, why would a mere dozen in a naval installation?

To create jobs for their precious bureaucracy – the pushers of both federal and state red tape who fill our unconstitutional regulatory agencies – the Left happily drives the cost of manufacturing so high that thousands of employers and entire industries have been driven abroad. From steel to textiles, from small manufacturing to automobiles, the Left has driven businesses out of the country for generations. If the sight of whole states rendered bankrupt, and millions of careers disappearing, doesn’t make them question their destructive policies, why would anything else?

Or consider their addiction to LGBT causes. Not satisfied with mere tolerance, the Left advocates for it, encouraging the young and impressionable to experiment with sexual deviancy long before they’re adult enough to make such choices. Their support for the one gay scoutmaster trumps any feeling of obligation to the rest of the scouts; their support for the one transgender child who wants to be homecoming “queen” trumps any feeling of obligation toward the rest of the student body.

Even confronted with the most outrageous conflicts among their causes, the Left drives full steam ahead. Their hatred of traditional Judeo-Christian devotion drives them to support any effort that opposes it, not just atheism but even militant islam. We see the Left today allowing the slow spread of creeping sharia law, even though its misogyny and violence are legendary, scattering the landscape with dead child brides and beheaded partners. Once they stake out a position, the collateral damage is out of sight, out of mind to the Left.

They almost seem to be tweaking us, being ever more outlandish with the hour. The rancher’s livelihood must be sacrificed for a snail darter. The entire lumber and paper industries must be jeopardized for the sake of a spotted owl. Starving coal miners must be sacrificed on the altar of the cult of global warming.

The Right bases its causes on the general economic and philosophical principle (famously attributed to Jack Kennedy, of all people) that “a rising tide lifts all boats.” The Right thinks beyond the target audience to the others affected by a policy. A stronger business community helps big business, small business, and employees alike, no matter whether they’re liberal, conservative, or moderate. Safer streets help every law abiding citizen, black or white, Asian or Hispanic, straight or gay, young or old.

But the Left is identity-based; they pick a group or an issue, and lose all interest to those hurt by their advocacy, even if they had claimed to support the group a day before.

So, Joe Scarborough shouldn’t have been shocked to see the president delivering so nasty a speech, so unconcerned with the feelings of other viewers who were watching the live coverage of the Navy Yard search and rescue operation on some other channel.

We should no longer be amazed when the Left turns every issue into a war, when they happily sacrifice the law-abiding for the sake of the lawbreakers, when they gleefully ruin our culture in favor of the degradation of modern nihilism. We should expect it by now.

Every day, the Left proves itself to be concerned only with the audience to whom they are speaking at any given moment. If you’re their donor, their voter, their supporter, their hero, then you have the full and unconditional support of the Left, and they’ll ruin the lives of millions of others to build you up.

Until tomorrow, when some other donor, some other voter, some other interest group, is perceived to be of more value to their short term interest, and you’re tossed on the bonfire of their vanity, to feed the flames of the societal destruction that has become their stock in trade.

We need to turn around this PC crap. The left wussified America to a point where people are afraid to call a spade a spade.

These are Marxists and we should call them that. And when the MSM comes to the lefts aid, we call them Marxists too.

The way to beat Alinsky is to act like Alinsky.
