1 million dollar question is: „How is the collapse going to look like, and when is it gonna start?“
So there are numerous opinions, and also numerous ideas about how it is gonna look, when it is gonna start and whatever.
And big truth is that „sheep“ people (non preppers, non survivalists) are not gonna see it coming and it is understandable, but also lot of real preppers are blind.
Some of us are „too deep“ and „too blindly“ buried into the BOB, BOL, SHTF, WROL and other discussion and arguing about „what knife to have when SHTF” and God knows what else. Many think one day lights go out and darkness all around, hell breaks lose. But this only happens when governments make big mistake or nature finally gets back at us.
I believe government and corporations just turn off light slowly. Hand out pocket lights that people can see small area around them but not big picture.

If money wasn’t an issue I would order the foods I wanted in #10 cans and cycle them through my kitchen periodically (perhaps at 10 year intervals), but for me, just being able to buy and shove them into the back of the closet for the rest of my life is the route to take.
In my case I have old #10 cans of wheat and beans and such, labor intensive, fuel intensive, boring, last ditch type foods to hold off starvation, but this sale gave me a chance to pick up some meat based, just add water type foods.
This batch helps flesh out my diet for appeal and nutrition, and also provides food that I can prepare if sick or not well physically for whatever reason.

I eat a lot of beans and have ground and sprouted much wheat for meals and bread, in other words, using fresh wheat berries and fresh dried beans is easy and tasteful when you have a kitchen.
What I was referring to was being without a stove and having to secure water and fuel for utilizing 20 and 30 year old, hard, dried beans and wheat, that is a whole different ball game than me merely putting on a pot of beans and making some bread today.
During bad times or when I am sick or injured, having some powdered eggs or other just add hot water foods will be an important option and supplement to some boring meals of ground bean chunks boiled with wheat berries.
One survival trick with the beans since you won’t have refrigeration, is to cook the beans in canning jars, while pressure canning them, that way the fuel that you use will leave you with many jars of beans that won’t need refrigeration so the effort of making one meal, will actually give you several.
I thought you were speaking of freeze - dried meals. Not dehydrated components. I have bunches of dried milk, eggs, tomato powder, etc as well. Good stuff to use with other ingredients.
How long do you cook the beans before starting the canning process (90 min cook-time, I assume)?
The cans I bought are Mountain House, so I guess they are freeze dried.
As far as cooking/canning the beans, I would have to look it up, I got it from the canning column woman in Backwoods Home magazine many years ago.
You put the dried beans into the jar with a little salt, pour boiling water in, and then process for 90 minutes or so, the processing cooks them.

Yes. Memphis can change drastically from block to block. It’s very strange.
And THAT just answered the demographics question. They're already in the "dark"...

Hours, people - not days, hours.
I’ll google it and see how to cook the canned beans. I thought about canning some that way some time ago...might as well try it now that it is finally cooling down.
