Immigration reform, once the top priority coming out of the 2012 presidential election, has stalled. The Senate has passed legislation, but the House is badly divided.
The current system is a shambles. Legal categories and subcategories, quotas, and lotteries have created a flourishing legal industry. The immigration bureaucracy is a lower level of Dante’s Hell. Foreign students are turned away from U.S. universities, highly-skilled individuals are barred from working in America, and even political refugees sometimes are denied entry. Attempting to fence off the country is no answer to anything. It would be difficult for a generally free society with extensive borders to close out the rest of the world. Worse, to be effective such controls as ID cards, citizenship checks, workplace raids, employer sanctions, and more would undermine domestic liberties

I do have to admit, people who come here legally have their pockets absolutely fleeced by members of the immigration bar.

I was talking about the people who came legally. Not the illegal LaRaza crowd demonstrating in L.A.
Speaking of immigration, I was watching a tv series that is set in Detroit and they kept referring to “Chaldeans”. The only Chaldeans that I could think of were from Biblical times, so last night I looks it up. Sure enough, they were talking about the same Chaldeans mentioned in the Bible, people from what is now Iraq.
The Chaldeans are non-Muslims, a type of Christian that we brought here from Iraq and deposited in Detroit (and LA and San Diego), 150,000 of them were deposited in Detroit. This is in addition to the Muslims that were settled in Detroit. Is it any wonder that the Detroit is in such financial trouble?
The Mexicans are not our biggest immigration problem, the Middle Easterners are. Obama is bringing in thousands of Syrians every day through our largest airports and who knows where he is sending them, but we are paying for them.

If there were no freebies for immigrants and no anchor babies, this MIGHT be correct.
But since we know that is not the case and we know the situation won’t change, this is not true. Immigrants, especially non-English speaking, illiterate or semi-literate, low skilled, and illegally present “immigrants,” cost more than they add to the economy. Essentially they are public subsidy to companies that hire them.

It’s not the “business” we’re questioning. It’s the culture they are bringing here. Check every city with the word “Little (insert your country)” and it’s obviously choc full of businesses but they can’t seem to naturally assimilate into the American fabric. I’m confident to say there will be 5 mosques within 2 years if these “hard working people” come into Detroit.
The TV show depicts them as drug dealers and mafia types, the wikj-pedia article does not say how they support themselves, just that there were several hundred thousand of them brought here.

More then likely by becoming entrepreneurs, opening up restaurants, bars, butcheries, grocery stores, etc, and working hard like people born in America used to work.
When I think immigrants, in particular from the Middle East, I think entrepreneur.
Opening mosques isn’t a problem? We’re talking muzzies here, not Koreans, Chinese or Italians.
My daughter worked for a company that was owned by a self described, Morrocan Jew, and what appeared to be a legitimate, prosperous small company, was anything but. They had an office in NYC and one employee, whose main job was to meet this old rabbi in a hotel room every month, where she would pick up $40,000 in cash and send it on to LA.
As near as we could figure out, the legitimate company was more of a money laundering operation. The point is, the culture is not compatible with freedom and capitalism.
That would violate the equal protection clause.

The TV show depicts the small businesses as fronts and some times they are. The Middle Eastern culture and capitalism don’t mix well. Capitalism without the western moral ethic is just a criminal enterprise.
