U.S. Developing 'Rapid-Strike' Arms

The U.S. is developing a state-of-the-art weapon that can hit targets anywhere in the world within an hour and might be used to neutralize nuclear weapons in North Korea and Iran, a report says.

James Acton of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace published the report on the development of "conventional prompt global strike" weapons early this month.

The weapon is a new-concept missile with an intercontinental ballistic missile booster capable of flying 20 times faster than the speed of sound and striking any target around the world within an hour. Development began in 2000.

According to the report, development is still underway. A test launch of an advanced hypersonic weapon was successful in 2011, and a second test in May this year with a hypersonic aircraft was also successful.

The report presents an operational scenario for the use of the weapon against North Korean and Iranian nuclear weapons. If the launch of nuclear weapons by either of these countries seems imminent, the superweapon could carry out a preemptive strike without the targets realizing until they are hit.

My dad had a Rapid Strike Arm whenever we rode in the Buick.

So did my Dad. There were no head rests to get in their way in those days.

I call baloney. We’ve had this since the mid-eighties. Just revealing it now, I guess. It’s just like TV or the movies. If you see something in most science fiction/fantasy programs, it already exists in some way. I guarantee it.

Sounds more like the Rods from God than any land-based missile to me. Do we even have anything that can fly 20 times faster than the speed of sound? Last I remember, ramjets go to about 7 times the speed of sound.

Yup, and if we are revealing this system now, you can be sure we already have the next generation system developed, but still classified.

20X speed of sound is roughly ICBM burn-out velocity.

I wonder if a launch of this weapons could be mistaken for an ICBM strike?

That’s almost exactly what one of the Area 51 engineers said, originally from Skunkworks. His was in “you know those stuff on Star Trek? Yeah, we have it.”

They're finally coming out with the Dick Tracey wrist phones, but do you believe we just now got to that level of miniaturization?

You know how I know that is BS?

Simple: Greed

There is too much money to be made in the private sector to keep that kind of technology under wraps.

Secondly, the best and brightest don't go working for the government.

Falcon HTV-2 Hypersonic Plane Loses Control in Mach 20 Test (Aug. 11, 2011)

The U.S. military said it launched a hypersonic test aircraft called the Falcon HTV-2, which reached speeds of 13,000 mph, but lost control after about nine minutes of flight and, they believe, crashed in the Pacific Ocean.

Reagan started the wheels turning on this with the X-30 national aerospace plane (mach 25), but senior Bush trashed the nasa/air force/university funding for it ‘s enabling technologies when he became president. Imagine an airliner streaking across the sky like a meteor (not), the g-forces would kill everyone in the slightest turn. Technology hidden in plain sight. I was lucky enough to work on some of this stuff, let’s just say the aliens don’t have anything on us americans.
