My prayers are with you and your wife. Most sincerely.
John
She's still hospitalized and they still haven't discovered the primary cancer but they have found several more mets in her intestines. They think it might be Bile Duct Cancer.
I'm heading back to see her now...just wanted to say thank you!
For the last 7 months she's been on a chemo regimen of a combination of two drugs Gemzar and Cisplatin. She tolerated the treatment well at first and had significant response in the beginning. However, in the last month and a half her tumor markers started creeping back up and last week her oncologist ordered a Cat Scan. The scan revealed what we expected but dreaded. Her tumors have started to grow again and her main tumor is now larger than when she started chemo and tumors have spread across her liver and spread to her lymph nodes as well as her duodenum.
Her Dr.has stopped the Gem/Cis and wants to start her on FOLFOX...another cocktail. She was prepared to tell the Dr that she wanted to stop treatment this morning because the side effects were wearing her down. She's got hand and foot syndrome (neuropathy) so badly that she's afraid to walk anywhere because her feet are completely numb. Her hands are so badly affected that she can't button her clothes. She's lost 75-80% of her hearing, she's constantly fatigued and completely worn down and nauseous all day every day. She's passed out several times and has had seizures. She was scheduled for chemo today but it's been canceled. She starts FOLFOX next week. I don't know how long that will last, everything that I've read indicates that the side effects are worse than the Gem/Cis and it's efficacy is lower.
I honestly don't know how she keeps going on. I am in awe of her spirit and courage. I love her more than I can say and hate seeing her suffer while helpless and unable to do anything for her. So Please keep this brave, dear lady in your thoughts and prayers!
Thanks,
Dan.
Father God,
Please comfort Dan with the loss of his wife. Draw close to him in the days ahead.
In Jesus name we pray,
Amen.
