Dmitry Peskov was reported to have made the comments in a briefing with Russian journalists at the G20 summit in St. Petersburg on Thursday night.
“Britain is just a small island no one pays any attention to them,” Mr Peskov was reported to have said.
Mr Peskov vigorously denied making the comments on Friday morning.
“I simply can’t explain the source of that claim. Definitely it is nothing to do with reality. It is not something I have said,” M“I don’t know whose views it reflects. We have very positive dynamics in our relationship between Britain and Russia.”

This was a Russian official who made the remark and he probably had had a little too much Vodka when he said it. But then again, you know what they say about alcohol and truth...
Sorry blokes. Don’t choke on your bangers when reading this but the fact is it’s bloody hell spot on! My sincerest apologies to our dear cousins but taking into consideration your sorry economic, military, political status, it’s a lot closer to the truth than to the other end of the spectrum.

The Russian guy was probably repeating what McCain said. Hey, maybe they thought Mccain was Russian. LOL
Although the alleged statement is factually correct, one has to take the context into consideration. Did the Russian guy actually say it? Or was he drunk and forgot he was mouthing off? Right now, we are nearing the brink of war and the West wants to target Russia. If he’s denying he made the comment that sounds like he never made the comment in the first place.
It’s a story similar to the one in which a French diplomat invited to a party (in England) in which unknown to him the host was a pro-Israel sympathizer, having made reference to Israel as that “sh!tty little country”. The difference is, was that the Froggie was not in the least bit inebriated. Embarrassed, for sure. Inebriated, no.
