Miley Cyrus - No Shame At MTV Awards
Political Realities ^ | 08/26/13 | LD Jackson

Posted on 08/26/2013 5:33:47 AM PDT by LD Jackson

Allow me this morning to make a detour from my regular posting about news and politics. There are some things that go beyond the pale and are hard to describe, but beg to be written about. Without sharing the video of Miley Cyrus and her raunchy dance at the opening of the MTV Video Music Awards, I can not describe the disgust I felt. I was doing my normal reading of the news this morning and came across a website that had a copy of the video embedded. I made it through to the point where she took off her clothes before I turned it off. I couldn't stand watching this young woman degrade herself any longer.

Just so we are clear, I normally do not watch such videos. I am a fan of gospel music, with a few country songs (if they aren't about cheating and drinking) tossed in for flavor. I do not listen to, or watch, the kind of music and videos that are making millions by selling sex and raunchy behavior to teenagers. If you want to see what I mean, I am sure you can find the video of Miley Cyrus and her dance at the MTV awards. If you haven't seen it, trust me when I say this, it's downright nasty.

I have watched a few clips of the Disney show that starred Miley Cyrus as Hannah Montana. It seemed to be a fairly wholesome show about a teenage girl who was a pop idol in her secret life. The clips I have watched were funny and the show seemed to be more of a comedy than anything else. That's a far cry from what climbed out of the belly of a giant teddy bear last night when the MTV awards opened with Miley Cyrus.

I am not a naive person. I have no problem grasping the concept that not everyone holds the same moral values that I hold, that I was taught when I was a boy. I have no problem realizing that not everyone likes the same kind of music. Many of the bloggers I am acquainted with share some of their rock and roll music with their readers and from time to time, I have shared some of the gospel music I enjoy. That's not what this post is about.

There are many people in America who bemoan the fact that our children seem to hold little or no morals. Many of them wonder why this is, but it shouldn't be a big surprise. We have teenager girls acting like little sluts and teenage boys acting like hoodlums and gangsters. Those kind of lifestyles seem to be glorified in our country. And we have the audacity to wonder why this is happening? Take a look at the MTV awards last night and you might get a clue.

Is there any wonder why we see so many teenagers with drug, alcohol, and sex problems? When they look up to and worship someone like Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga, what else can we expect. Garbage in, garbage out.

I can’t believe they just showed part of that porno on FNC!

The reason I just ripped out the power supply from the big LCD TV -- Fox New is (was) on all the time here.

She dances like a spaz.

Truth be told, I've had more elegant drunken blackouts.

Looking at that pic I can’t really imagine a straight dude looking at her under any amount of alcohol thinking “want some of that”.

So that leaves gay dudes. And if a gay dude looks at that ...

you know maybe they have a point. I’ve seen hotter dudes....;)

This is coming down to busted business models now. It’s happening in Hollywood, publishing, music . . .

The arbiters of taste, chick’s like Anne Wintour in fashion is a really good example, used to have immense power.

Taste, and what sells, is becoming more democratic. The ‘editors’ have so much less power than they used to.

There are outstanding vocalists out there that can’t get a break, and they will happily troop on over to a vocaloid studio and for six figures immortalize their vocal talents into a transfer function the studio can use to produce a superstar.

‘Wool’ is a book published on Amazon by a guy who’s first book wasn’t much of a success. Through hard marketing work he built a following and made some excellent marketing choices and built himself a lucrative business. Amazon recently hosted a seminar featuring a couple of mainstream successful authors.

One wrote ‘The Help’, where she relived having been rejected over 60 times before finally getting a house to publish her. Had she to do it again, she would have done Amazon. Rowling was passed up by about 15 different houses - she’s worth billions now, and has made her publisher very wealthy. Who passed on her, and do they still have jobs?

Spielberg and Lucas both rang the bell on the death of the current business model in Hollywood. They hinted that some movies would have ticket prices of $20 or more, while others would be cheaper than $10.

I don’t see that happening, and now Netflix and even Google are getting into the production business.

If its on the networks, it tends to be pretty bad now. Big Bang Theory is a great show, but beyond that I can’t think of a network show we bother DVR’ing anymore. It’s all on FX, AMC, or USA now.

Good news? Beyond the WSJ, which is SLIPPING by the way, (Someone from their editorial shop needs to decimate the news division, and fire Jason Gay too) the internet is the only place to go for news - FR, Brietbart, and some other places.

Even with these sources, its almost impossible to get objective analysis anymore.

I have every intention to be extremely unfair to them, no different than the Loyalists were treated after R1.

Rhianna looked pissed. This, after all, is her schtick. And she actually is black.

You know that when Hanna Montana shows up to eat your lunch, you've been well and truly screwed over.

African American performers have carved out a certain niche. Not my cup of tea... but it has been a lucrative market. Now the likes of Miley Cyrus are showing up to horn in and divvy up the pie. That has to wrankle...

BTW, can we dispense with the notion that Hanna Montana’s big ol’ microphone was not a suggestive prop from the git-go?

The way Miley looked reminded me of the actress from the movie Sunset Boulevard. Spooky!
