Just saw it mid day saturday. theatre was pretty crowded but not packed.
i kind of liked it. damon was good as low level criminal that gets into a big big mess. Jodie Foster was really good as the evil b*&%h that runs the space station habitat. For reasons never explained she speaks French, and has some odd kind of French accent. Aside from that she fills the roll. She also fills out her tight skirt, looks like Ms. Foster has ballooned a little. Might have gone another way on the rear tight skirt shots. Double wide.
Lot of stuff ripped off from other Sci Fi, like Larry Nivens Ringworld, and all the exoskeleton and mean robot stuff from a zillion other films. Plus a major rip off from Johnny Mnemonic about loading big data into the brain. Kind of a rip of Iron Man too in a way, but it still hangs together.
Ending isnt too surprising, i wont give it away.
The guy who starred in District 9 plays the bad guy and he is really good. Lot of cool miltech scenes and hardware. Fight scenes, but not too many.
Special effects and visuals were outstanding.
All in all, if you are a sci fi fan, a must see. But then I liked Oblivion, so there you go.
Oh, and the "political agenda"? Thats BS, there isnt any, its strictly the usual down and outs against the haves, no big deal, no more than Les Miserables or any other film like that. No biggie, not in your freeper face thats for sure, IMHO.
You just helped Damon put his kids through another year of private schools while yours probably went to government schools...
Feeling good about that?
you are the only one....
hahahahaha
“The guy who starred in District 9 plays the bad guy and he is really good”
Thanks for your review, I loved that movie District 9 and flame me if you like but hubby and I really like Matt Damon, as an actor, esp. in the Bourne movies.
So I might go see this one in the movies. It did look good from the ads.
Actually say Les Miz with the kid and that was OK, but Russel Crowe, a good as he was, really didn’t have the singing chops and his one big number suffered for that.
my kids both went to private colleges, one went to public high school one went to parochial high school.
do i feel good about it? you bet your ass i do.
one of the things i am most proud of in my life.
i dont give a rats ass where damon sends his kid. thats his business. free country bro.
“Oh, and the “political agenda”? Thats BS, there isnt any”
Oh yes there is, that’s why they went to great pains to say “it’s entertainment”
Agenda #1: “Citizenship is only a database entry”
Agenda #2: “Free Medical Care is easy”
Agenda #3: “The gringos don’t want mexicans to have the free medical care”
They filmed this a year ago probably.....they had no idea that Obamacare and Amnesty would be at a political crescendo at the point when the film came out - hence the BS about it being entertainment only.
Why would you support such crap?
I hope you are talking about the original TDTESS.
The only problem with the Film was that the Aliens could shut down Electrical Generation worldwide, making exceptions for Planes in flight, Hospitals etc., but they threaten to destroy the entire Planet if we weaponize Space.
Well, without Electricity, there ain’t no Rockets going anywhere. The Human Race would just be in a perpetual early 1800’s state for eternity.
One of my favorite trivia items about the Film was the question of the Robot Gort. When they asked the designer how he came up with a Costume that had no visible openings for the Actor to get into it, he had a very simple answer.
There were TWO Suits, one with a zipper in the front and the other with a zipper in the back.
Well of course the premise is not at all original
Best film I have seen in a long time with a political message hat worked was Book of Eli.
Personally, I’m not a Matt Damon fan, but since there is still a smidgeon of freedom left in this country, you are free to watch anything you like and support them as well.
I used to think well, I won’t support so and so in their career because I don’t agree with their politics, and to a certain extent, I still hold to that. Then I got to thinking - those libs pay taxes as well, they eat out, they buy clothes and cars, etc., so they are keeping others in jobs as well - and some of those others may very well be conservatives. This is just my opinion in the matter.
Maybe Damon and Foster would feel differently if they saw Elysium as Beverly Hills and Hollywood while Earth is the rest of Los Angeles. Hey poor people, just walk a few miles north and everything will be free and wonderful... Ha! Damon would be begging for the riot police to set up a free fire zone to keep Beverly Hills safe.
Just to clarify things, which FReepers do you consider among the “high and mighty”?
Do you have an official list?
Am I on it?
My best guess is that Elysium gets destroyed, but only after Damon’s character gets what he needs from it, and them the world ends up the same except those Evil Rich Republicans who lived on Elysium are DEAD!
A liberal feel good (but they don’t know why) Wet Dream. Kind of like Obamacare.
Or, I could be wrong. I have a free Movie Pass I got on my Birthday. There is no extra charge if you wait a week to see New Releases, so I might go see it next week to check if my theory holds water.
I wouldn’t care if it was the epic of the new millennium, I won’t give them my money.
Hope you mean the 1951 TDTESS with Michael Rennie instead of Kenau Reeves. :) Much better.
The Butler? Seriously? Hanoi Jane Fonda playing Nancy Reagan? Oprah on general principle?
Never Forget, Never Forgive Hanoi Jane.
He might have a back end deal as well, but I'm not sure any FReeper participation will amount to much extra money for him or the hundreds of Liberals who helped make the Movie.
If it's an issue, wait until the DVD makes the bargain bin at Walmart in about a year. Even then a Liberal will get paid though, even if it's just a penny.
I saw an ad for this on TV. Just a lot of mechanical stuff happening, muscles flexing, absolutely zero dialogue. Not my kind of flick.
