I am a lifelong Yankee fan who will admit that the reason the Yankees are as bad as they are goes straight to leadership...namely Joe Girardi. This clown should have stayed either with the Marlins or went to Chicago when he could have. IMHO, he cannot manage his way out of a piss soaked paper bag (Thanks George Patton). Now for the good part. The most interesting concept to me is which team will choke sooner and/or better, the Rays or the Red Sox? Too bad we can’t get them to sit down to the same pot of stew....they can choke nicely together. I wish them both luck, and I’m sure you kmow what kind, don’t you.

Three hottest teams in baseball right now, with my Royals being one of them, and the other two (Cleveland and Detroit) are in the same division; 6 and 8.5 games up respectfully :-(

Still, it’s nice to finally have something to be excited about in KC in August, other than the Chiefs!

The Tigers are only .05% behind the Sox, they're hotter, bought your young shortstop, have a better pitching, better offense and overall a better team lined up for the playoff run than the Sox.

If you make the AL final, you're gonna get beat.

Sorry about that.....

And the Yankees are imploding..they're just about out of the playoffs
Still a looong way to go before the end of the season. Just ask Ralph Branca.
And you really can't say the "Yankees" are imploding. The current roster is just a bunch of thrown together no-bodies and has-beens who weren't expected to win anyway.

Robinson is in a slump I blame the late nights with the rapper and his whore. Girardi has no control over his players.

And the Red Sox are SO with-it on the social diversity scene too!
All baseball teams should hold a “Gay Day” and have a “gay” guy throw out the first pitch..../snark

Reds fan here. I’m stuck with the daily ineptness that is Dusty Baker. Look for the Reds to make the wild card game, go to St. Louis or Pittsburgh, get blown out and reward Dusty with an extension.

Last year with a two game to zero lead in a best of five series against the Giants, Bruce Bochy managed circles around Dusty. It was embarrassing. Dusty does not know how to close the deal in post-season play.

As a Yankees hater since 1957, am really enjoying the A-Fraud debacle.

Considering you profile: Former Noo Yawka, now from Tampa area, you have strange affinities. I am glad the Sawx are having a good year, I attribute a LOT of it to John Farrell. Still, Tampa Bay consistently gets the most wins per payroll dollar of any team in the majors, playing in the most competitive division. John Maddon is flat out the best manager in baseball, imho. Farrell is the best Red Sox manager in my lifetime.

I still respect the Yankees, they have a long proud tradition. This year is lost, but they will almost certainly be back with a vengance.

How can you talk about the hottest teams in baseball now and fail to mention the Dodgers?

Our Red Sox are on top of the AL East, but it's a shaky lead, IMO. Their starting pitchers are shaky at best. Lackey has improved, but Lester seems to have lost it. Not sure what the heck is going on with Clay Buchholz, or how long he'll stay healthy whenever he returns.

Batters like Napoli (who is something like 0 for 17) and Brandon Snyder really need to either get glasses, or re-learn how to connect the bat with the ball... hubby and I cringe lately when they come up to bat.

The TB Rays are RED HOT, and have better pitching than the Red Sox, from what I've seen lately. Rays' outfielder Wil Myers is amazing. If Longoria recovers from that foot injury by the post-season, I think the Rays are going to be very hard to beat.

The Red Sox start a 4-game stand tonight at the also red-hot Kansas City Royals. In previous years, facing the Royals was like facing the current lowly Houston Astros. You expect a team like the Red Sox to win, if not sweep the series.

The Red Sox did not sweep the Astros (over the past 3 nights), and it was looking pretty dismal for the Sox last night until Stephen Drew hit a 3-run homer in the 9th.

Just my 2 cents...

A-Rod is very damaged goods. His history with the Yankees has been marked by strange off and on the field behavior. For example, his barking out a sound when the Toronto Blue Jays 3rd baseman was attempting to catch a pop fly. Or when he tomahawked the ball out of the Red Sox player’s glove while running to first base. Or his incredible claim that he only used anabolic steroids during the 3 years while he played for the Rangers. No one believes his stories, and he exudes a lack of class and tremendous amount of insecurity. While he won the Yankees a WS ring in ‘09, the rest of his tenure has been strange, at best, and dishonest at its worst. Yankees fans have always recognized the guy is a distraction, a cheater, and all about ME.

Perfectly said, and I remember those incidents you describe above, ie A-Fraud's "barking" when the Blue Jays' 3rd baseman was trying to catch a pop fly. What a classless jerk. Never liked him since Day One.

Of course now A-Fraud has proven to be a classless, lying, arrogant, selfish POS jerk.

The Yankees are burdened with too many too-old expensive has beens. I don’t think this is the team they’ll be fielding next season. Too bad about A-Fraud
