Journalists responded with shock, awe and a predictable amount of snark to the news that Amazon.com founder Jeff Bezos had bought The Washington Post. The news was announced Monday afternoon. Bezos himself, rather than his company, bought the Washington newspaper for roughly $250 million.

Well, that is one way to lose $250 million. He could have effectively flushed the money down the toilet and done no worse.
They think nothing is going to change in their little world. They really don’t realize they are killing their own business and their futures. Let them just go ahead and tout all the wrong things as one after the other their employers die a slow and agonizing death.
It will be int3eresting. He is as big a lib as any out there but he does like to make money. As soon as he figures out he’s lot half his customer base he may be smart enough to do something about it.
The long-time owners couldn't do that..but new ownership will do so easily, and rapidly....I suspect that Bezos ends up getting the paper for about the price of a year's subscription..
The Washington Post sends me subscription flyers all the time. I take their postage-paid ebvelopes and mail them back other junk mail I receive.

excellent tax writeoff, plus it gives him the chance to lobby hard for his two issues, pro-gay marriage and pro-internet sales tax.
Why are newspapers dying? Because they have become one sided advertisements for the left. If he wants to make money, try presenting both sides of issues with some honest dialogue. Some real investigative reporting might help as well. This is the same newspaper that crucified Nixon over Watergate yet refuses to acknowledge the many, and far worse in my opinion, scandals of the current administration.
Don't assume they're in it to make a profit. They are in it to "change the world". They are in it to promote their world socialist propaganda.
The operating losses are just a cost of doing business. It's now just Jeff Bezos' turn to pick up the tab. The Dems will reward him in various ways to make up for it.
When all the retirements, pensions and other corrupt union obligations/debts are factored-in, it’s far, far. far beyond a mere $250m. I guess he knows that.
No need to use the ‘in my opinion’ caveat.
Watergate didn’t have a body-count.
Let’s all stop pretending journalism is still an honorable and respected profession. Mostly because of the journalists we have today.
Funny thing is they are still pretending, and not realizing they did it to themselves.
They keep referring to him as “the libertarian Bezos.” Trust me, he’s no libertarian. He has regularly supported distinctly non-libertarian causes and politicians. The left now calls anyone who supports gay marriage and abortion under any circumstances as a libertarian, and genuine libertarians who want to restore our constitutional liberties as originally intended as racists and hate-mongers.
One report I read said that sale did not include the WaPo building and that it has been up for sale since February, without a buyer so far.
I’ll have to check that...if it didn’t include the building, then I bet Bezos demanded a 10 year lease for $1/month..
I don’t think the story said, if Bezos assumed the pension obligations....unlike the Globe..where the new owner didn’t..
nahhh....that’s pocket change to this guy. This is all about getting an invite to all the hippest inside-the-beltway cocktail parties.
So, that whining from the left about the ComPost becoming a mouthpiece for the Republican Party was just misdirection?
