I agree, this essay does not pass the smell test for me.

Allow me to edit and expand a portion of your spot-on comment:

"They foul their own nest and then they want to come to your neighborhood NATION (thank you, busing UNITED NATIONS, OBOZO, OPEN BORDERS, IMPORTING ALIEN IDEOLOGIES, MUSLIMS, ETC!) and foul yours WHAT WISER MEN HAVE CALLED "THE LAST BEST HOPE FOR MANKIND". You work your rear end off so that your kids can go to a nice school LIVE IN A FREE AND PROSPEROUS NATION --so that the ghettokinder FLOTSAM AND JETSAM OF THE THIRD WORLD can come there, beat up your kid HERE, SUCK UP VIRTUALLY UNLIMITED WELFARE "BENEFITS" YOU PAY FOR, destroy equipment, scar the desks with graffiti, and disrupt the classes EVERYTHING so no one can learn TO THE POINT WHERE LIFE AS WE OLDER FOLKS HAVE KNOWN IT IS GROUND INTO THE DIRT.

There, we've just described the last 20 years of government under Dems and Pubbies but most especially, the last 6 or so.

Of course, THAT'S BEEN THE PLAN ALL ALONG, hasn't it?

One very black student was indignant: “You pick da half-breed.” And immediately other blacks take up the cry, and half a dozen mouths are screaming, “He half-breed.”

As the racist Trayvon Martin said in one of his tweets as the reason he beat up another boy “He not breed enough”

I applaud the author for having the courage and fortitude to speak the truth and tell it like it is in these perilous politically correct times. It takes a lot of moxy to speak out on the issue of race without fear of being labeled a racist.

Very good article. I was a school nurse at an Army base overseas. K-6 at first, then K-8. We had a lot of good black students, many who did well and were on the honor roll. Earned, not just “awarded”. Sadly, though, MOST were “changed” into the description above when the went on up to Jr/Sr high. The culture there was formidable to any honors students and you either got in with them or faced untold harassment. Most complied, unfortunately. Well-educated to a point, but stifled as they were beginning to bloom, really. I commented on it to several of our teachers as well as HS teachers. They just stated that this was the culture that is and go on about their own tasks. One year I was the HS nurse, when a nurse left in October to move back to the US with her husband. The black girls would flock the nurse’s office for unspecified reasons and by the time you could deal with them, the class was over. But the most disheartening was the conversations about having this guy or that as their baby-daddy. I talked with them asking them to set their goals in life quite a bit higher, but that was nonsense to them. As the writer so succinctly pointed out, getting checks for having babies was good news to them.

LR, please comment on this:

“I had the EXACT same experience in an all-black NYC high school. No time to listen to the subject matter, too busy making excuses for themselves, dancing around the classroom, having no idea of proper classroom decorum, telling the teacher to “suck my d_ck” in every other sentence, threatening to “find you after school and jump you”, jumping on each other in their seats, coming late to class, wandering the halls in herds instead of attending class, stuffing their faces with junk food in the classroom, throwing materials around, throwing potentially injurious stuff right at me, and just acting out in general to deliberately disrupt the lesson. “

from post 76. Please explain to the poster what his (or her) mis-perception was. I sincerely want to hear why these observations - and two begin a pattern - are inaccurate.

"I can’t understand how anyone is shocked by this essay...This is stuff i’ve known since about the 7th grade...but i’m a white southern male in the deep south...what the hell do i know??? I could have wrote this essay in about the 10th grade....Hate it for good black folks i know...but they won’t dare speak up...Race trumps Jesus and don’t you forget it!"

I agree on all points. It's all too easy for folks who don't live in areas with sizeable black populations to dismiss the essay as racist propaganda. Those of us who live in the South have experienced it.

I have plenty of stories. I was in junior high in the late seventies, and I remember the crowds of feral black kids. They took delight in going after white kids. I remember taking off a new sweater and laying it down; a black kid grabbed it and blew her nose on it, and her friends burst out in loud laughter. My husband's sister had to learn how to fight to defend herself from blacks. You had to be careful what you said to them, because they would explode over nothing. They would corner white kids and taunt them, sometimes attack them.

The problem isn't skin color; it's culture. There are some blacks who manage to escape the thug culture, or who grow up with two parents who raise them to be decent, normal human beings. But the hard truth is this----the majority of blacks carry enormous chips on their shoulders, and they go around looking for a reason to hate whitey.

Dear Leaning Right,

I don't think the author's essay is propaganda. I think it's more likely he had a different set of experiences than you did.

My sons attended/attend (one graduated, one is a rising senior) a 60% black school, and their experiences are radically different from both the author's and yours.

That doesn't mean that because your experiences are so radically different from my sons' that you're engaged in propaganda. Only that you were at a different school with different circumstances than that of my sons' high school.

Perhaps the author of the essay taught at one or more schools with its own set of differences from the schools that gave rise to your experiences.

You’d need to send someone along to TIE THEM UP AND READ IT TO THEM!

And they STILL would not “get it”. There’s too much money flowing into their bank accounts for that to ever happen!

LR, please comment on this: “I had the EXACT same experience in an all-black NYC high school.

I have witnessed almost everything that was in the original post. I have also witnessed almost everything that was in the post #76.

Let me go a bit further. I have been threatened with violence many times. I have been asked where I park my car (an obvious threat to damage my car). I was "accidentally" struck twice. And yes, I pressed charges.

So the urban schools are a mess. But the point I'm trying to make here as strongly as possible is that MOST urban black students are NOT as portrayed in the original post. Most are decent kids just trying to get a decent education.

Sometimes it's hard to see that because there is a domino effect here. For example, if the principal allows a few students to yell in the hallway, soon there will be a lot of students yelling in the hallway.

If the principal allows a few students to enter a class after the bell rang, soon there will be a lot of students entering a class after the bell rang. You see my point.

The author of the original "essay" ignores all this. His/her point is simple. All black urban students are garbage.

I object to that strongly.

Blacks that went to class were Uncle toms

I asked a black man I went to college with (who ran track and majored in computer science) if it was true that to study and work hard was considered by blacks as "acting white" and mocked. He said yes.

I see your point, but I still don't buy it. The main goal of this author was not to shine a light on urban schools. The main goal was to incite racial hatred.

If I had to bet, I'd bet that author is a white supremacist who spent little or no time actually teaching in an urban school.

i wonder if this is true in southern states?

Yup, sadly Austin, Texas has a similar problem. There are middle schools in east Austin that have daycare for babies. That's right, MIDDLE schools.

Dear Leaning Right,

You infer what isn't written. I don't infer the same things.

My sense is that the author was writing out of his own experiences, and may have generalized too broadly, but probably because that's what he knows, that's what he's experienced.

Even at the author's school[s], I'm sure there are exceptions to the general rule he describes, but sadly, I've known of schools like this in my own region where it is that awful, nasty, one-bad-apple-in-the-barrel 95% of students giving the other 5% a bad name.

I've known teachers who were beyond disgust with the circumstances of their schools who didn't sound much different than this author. Sad stuff. And in fact, it's probably past time for this fellow to retire. It isn't healthy for anyone - for himself, for his students - for him to continue to teach. I've known teachers like that who've taught in schools like this.

Your experience seems to be not as bad. Doesn't mean he's lying or exaggerating, or that you're not telling the truth. It just means you've had different experiences.

Culture is part of it. So is the backbone of the administration, and the support the public school system's central offices will give to principals in setting the tone and discipline of a school.

I lived in a neighboring county for 30+ years where the school system went from exemplary (and nearly 90% white) to bad beyond any imagining - worse than the author's descriptions (and over 90% black), back to a sort of middling level (probably closer to your experience). It appears to be on a downhill slide again, as the state is getting ready to “race-norm” discipline. Yikes.

Not that many years ago, there were schools in Washington, DC (I don't live far from the city) where the author's descriptions would be fairly accurate. Then, the city elected a mayor (Adrian Fenty) who actually gave a damn about kids who hired a chancellor of schools (Michelle Rhee) who not only gave a damn but knew how to make a difference. And a difference she made! Things improved modestly over Fenty’s four years in office.

But no good deed goes unpunished, and in large part because the large black community resented the discipline and high standards that Ms. Rhee introduced into the school system, Mr. Fenty was defeated in his bid for re-election.

I wonder whether the new mayor, Vincent Gray, can ruin the school system faster than Ms. Rhee and Mr. Fenty improved it.

And then, as I mentioned, there is my sons’ school, which is miles and miles away in experience from either the school or schools in which the essay's author taught, or the schools in which you taught. Yet, it is majority black.

I wouldn't assume nefarious reasons on the part of the author because his experience may have been measurably worse than yours.

I was also a young and idealistic liberal once. I was even convinced of my white privilege, and that it was my Christian responsibility to help poor black people.

So I set out to get an expensive 4 year degree in a field where I could help blacks.

THEN I spent my years after college striving in low paying jobs, and getting laid off myself- but tolerating it because I was going to someday help some poor black person.

I have seen the corruption and the oppression and filth.

THEN frustrated at not being able to help these poor black people understand how to get and keep jobs or how to be responsible citizens, I decided to have a street ministry, just praying for them, feeding them and ministering to them.

AND all of those wasted years are reflected back to me in this author’s essay.

I have had to accept that I was manipulated, lied to and led astray. People are not honest about the reasons blacks are poor and uneducated. It is NOT the white man’s fault. It is their impossible, tribal culture and we have ZERO power or control over their environment. THEY like this tribal way of life! They just bullshit, that they want to assimilate, us to keep the money flowing.

There is a reason people start to accept reality, about the high percentage of black who are using us and our country, and I am sick of people saying it is cynical.

I don’t want to live in a fantasy world anymore, or accept any further guilt about the plight of the black man- is my God given right.

I am sick of them. (Most of them) Sick to death of the excuses. White liberal guilt could very well destroy America like it destroyed South Africa- so shut the hell up trying to shame people who are coming into reality and waking up.

Many of us have worked our butts off, and given our own resources and our time- trying to help these people assimilate and have gotten screwed.
