Segal: Open letter from an illegal ‘alien’
Aspen Times ^ | July 6, 2013 | David Segal

Posted on 07/07/2013 6:04:07 PM PDT by moonshinner_09

My fellow Americans:

In this 75th-anniversary year of my arrival in this land, at this time of public debate about immigration in our great country, the time is right for me to add my voice to the conversation. (Good thing I have friends in journalism to give me a forum.)

For many of you, I have come to represent the goodness at the heart of our country and what we aspire to be. I stand for “truth, justice and the American way.” It’s no coincidence that my signature colors are red and blue.

I am also an immigrant —and an undocumented one at that. I didn’t choose to come here. My parents sent me here as a baby, the last hope of a dying world far away. Their dreams for the future rest on my shoulders, and I strive to honor their memory.

How many immigrants share a similar story: brought or sent here by parents who wanted nothing more than a better life for them? Should they be punished for choices that were out of their control? Or should we find a way to integrate them — us — into American society as responsible, productive citizens?

Of course, not every immigrant will turn out to be a superhero. Some are more mild-mannered. But the vast majority are here for the right reason: to make a better life, to invest in the promise of America. That sounds plenty heroic to me. And besides, being an immigrant or a child of immigrants has its own challenges. Living with a foot in two worlds can be trying, balancing assimilation into American society with the preservation of ethnic identity and tradition. It is precisely this dynamic that has given America her exceptional wealth of cultural and intellectual diversity and achievement.

Housing costs are spiraling out of control [this doesn't affect them.....they are willing to live 10 people in 1 apt or they are getting subsidized]......there are no after school jobs for teenagers because every fast food joint is staffed with non-English speaking undocumented workers as usual and you rarely get what you order no matter how patiently you explain because they do not out understand what you are saying.....[and I have to press 1 for English??]

But the vast majority are only here for the hand outs..

My dad was an immigrant who came here in the fifties, after having to wait years in a bombed out, broken Europe. He came here legally to be an American, unlike the invaders scurrying across our southern border to LEACH off the American people.

“Heroic” to me means staying in your own country, fighting for what you want, for your fellow countrymen, and not allowing elitists to push you around. You are coming here and are going to end up in the same situation, especially by voting Democrat.

to the authpr - you are an illegal foreign invader. you give the finger’to our laws. your opinion of our laws mean nothing to me, as my opinions of mexico’s laws mean nothing to you. you don’t care if i think yur laws are fair, and i don’t care if you think ours are fair.

you are not a fellow american citizen. you don’t belong here. you don’t care about our laws, you break any you don’t want to follow and then you expectus to be happy you are here, only to earn money yousend back to your own decaying country and your family back there. maybe if you gave two craps about your own country and people you’d do something there to make it better and more liveable.

in closing, i would be open to changing our immigration and how we treat illegal and legal foreigners in america, to mirror the laws of your country, mexico. i would also design our outhern border with mexico, the way mexico guards its southern border with guatemala. i trust since you never bitch and moan how unfair mexico’s laws are towards illegals and foreigners, you’d have no problem if we’adopted the very same’laws and applied them to you and yours.

I see no reason not to.

They’d use quotes from Adolf Hitler, Scripture or Dr. Seuss if it’d forward the leftist agenda and help destroy AmeriKKKa.

Anyone that is for Amnesty is for a communist Coup of the United States.

Does this moron realize that 30 million amnestied illegals and their family back home (50 million more) will vote in democrats/socialism to turn the USA into a socialist/communist state?

Hey morons, immigrants , democrats and anyone for this Amnesty bill: communism is no fun and results in extreme poverty for 99% of the population and people are virtual slaves in a dictatorship. think N. Korea or Cuba . that is what you immigrants are doing to America.

what happened to Venezuela will happen 100 times worse here. it's because democrats are hard core communists, all of them are(pelosi, Reid,Obama et al). they are importing untold millions of democrat voters that will allow them to rule with an iron fist. so 3rd world scum that invade the U.S.A looking to make more money will enable the democrats to turn the USA into a WORSE place than they left.

Rubio, Ryan ,Democrats, Bush? do you realize that? I know democrats want that as that is their goal to advance progressive policies and install a socialist/communist state.

do you Bush, democrats,Ryan , rubio realize that you are for communism?

Anyone that is for Amnesty is for a communist Coup of the United States.

Only chance to stop the Amnesty bill is for the House not to consider any immigration related bill at all.

He says his parents "sent" him here, not "brought" him here. How did he get in? Someone brought him. Did they bring him in illegally?

As for the fact that his being here was not of his own doing, there are ways to regularize his situation. Maybe he ought to use them instead of demanding legalization for every illegal.

When you come right down to it, none of us chose the country in which we were born. From birth, we are faced with the choice of going somewhere else, or of obeying the laws of the country we were involuntarily born in.

A fictional character proves illegal immigration is a good thing...

Not really.

75? 1938? The Great Depression?

WTF were this guy's parents THINKING?

Hell native-born AMERICANS were headed to California to look for jobs at that time.

How has this guy lived here for so long?

Who's SSN and stolen ID has he been using all these decades?

Oh, wait, I just got it. This is a PARODY.

First issue of Action Comics featuring Superman? 1938.

Well played satirist, well played.

Had me going there.

Wonder how many people will fall for this?

to the illegal alien:

you freaking MORON.You and your illegal cohorts by invading our country and pushing for amnesty will enable the democrats to have absolute power in the USA . and you know what democrats( Obama, Reid, pelosi , shumaer , Fienstein) will do with absolute power? They will turn the USA into a socialist/communist state. So democrats will turn the USA into a WORSE place than you left. morons. you illegals give your vote to democrats who are hard core communists. you are invading and perpetrating a communist coup of a once free nation , you stupid stupid , evil morons.you are condemning the Planet Earth to a 1000 years of communist darkness. because the democrats know that if they bring the USA down then they can extinguish liberty and capitalism from the Earth.

It’s SUPERMAN this propaganda is referencing.

His parents SENT him here on a spaceship.

He was raised an American in Smallville.

Using a comic book hero to justify illegal Mexican immigration is the height of insult. But this is what the Left does.
