I agree that he was born in Hawaii. One of the Conservative blogs I read (I forget which) had pulled out microfilm of his birth announcement in the Honolulu Advertiser from Aug. 5, 1961. That would be one helluva conspiracy theory to plant that in a Hawaii newspaper for a Kenyan baby because you were 100% confident he would one day be POTUS.

Arguments on the birth certificate are over narrow grounds as to whether he technically qualified as “native born”, given the law at that time.

So he is likely guilty of Student Aid Fraud. What’s the penalty for that?

You forget that Obama’s birth could have been self reported (by mom or grandparents) to a regional Hawaii health department office and that would have triggered the birth announcements to the newspapers. The Cold Case Posse has evidence from birth announcements where two babies were foreign born two years prior to Obama but were placed in the 1961 birth announcements.

The problem is that the birth announcement was not sent by the hospital, but probably by his grandmother (no doubt to legitimize the birth, although I don’t think he was born in Kenya but in British Columbia). Anybody could post a birth announcement in the paper, which didn’t check and didn’t require that it come from the hospital or some other official source.

Who said someone did it for that reason? Why couldn’t it have simply been to ensure someone thought he was a US citizen?

That’s NOT the reason the birth information was planted. It was planted - by his maternal grandmother simply to get him US citizenship since he wasn’t born there. Similar to my friend whose parents altered his b.c. from reading Jan to Dec to get him into school a year early.
