Following the dramatic self-revelatory interview/profiling of Edward Snowden by the Guardian's Glenn Greenwald, the media world, and everyone else, has been abuzz about what other revelations the NSA whistleblower may bring to light. Moments ago, the South China Morning Post releases the much anticipated second interview with the 29 year old. While hardly earth-shattering, it does provide some additional insight into the mind of the administration's current persona most non grata.
From South China Morning Post:
Snowden said last night that he had no doubts about his choice of Hong Kong.
People who think I made a mistake in picking Hong Kong as a location misunderstand my intentions. I am not here to hide from justice; I am here to reveal criminality, Snowden said in an exclusive interview with the South China Morning Post.
I have had many opportunities to flee HK, but I would rather stay and fight the United States government in the courts, because I have faith in Hong Kongs rule of law, he added.
Snowden says he has committed no crimes in Hong Kong and has been given no reason to doubt [Hong Kongs legal] system.
My intention is to ask the courts and people of Hong Kong to decide my fate, he said.
...
Beijing will seek to interfere in a likely extradition case.
The Hong Kong government has so far refused to comment on Snowdens case. While many Hong Kong lawmakers, legal experts, activisits and members of the public have called on the citys courts to protect Snowdens rights, others such as Beijing loyalist lawmaker and former security chief Regina Ip Lau Suk-yee said he should leave.
Hong Kong Human Rights Monitor director Law Yuk-kai said he was surprised by Snowdens choice, adding: Snowdens positive view of Hong Kong no longer matches the reality.
Law said a possible reason for his choice could be Hong Kongs role as the regions news hub.
Hong Kong remains a hub of the global media, not least because of its proximity to the economic boom in southern China and the ease of access to many other Asian cities. The publicity could complicate efforts by the United States to charge Snowden and have him deported, he said.
Snowden said yesterday that he felt safe in the city.
As long as I am assured a free and fair trial, and asked to appear, that seems reasonable, he said.
He says he plans to stay in Hong Kong until he is asked to leave.
The United States has not yet filed an application for extradition.
Snowden could choose to fight any extradition attempt in court. Another option open to him is to seek refugee status from the office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Hong Kong.
...
Local activists plan to take to the streets on Saturday in support of Snowden. Groups including the Civil Human Rights Front and international human rights groups will march from Chater Gardens in Central to the US consulate on Garden Road, starting at 3pm.
The march is being organised by In-media, a website supporting freelance journalists.
We call on Hong Kong to respect international legal standards and procedures relating to the protection of Snowden; we condemn the US government for violating our rights and privacy; and we call on the US not to prosecute Snowden, the group said in a statement.
I agree with him
Whistleblower laws are supposed to protect people exposing criminal behavior.
Well then start revealing then!
Snowden is wise to avoid a system that refuses to confirm Presidential legitimacy.
“Yes, my grandchild, back in the old days people use to flee China and Russia and come to the U.S. so as not to be captured and imprisoned by their corrupt government and indicted by a puppet court system for unveiling their human rights violations of liberty and freedom.”
All the classaction lawsuits will request Snowden’s participation in the trials as a witness no doubt...
Good for him - time to blow the whistle on these psychos in the govt
What I want to know is if Snowden has any lowdown on a person of interest called Harrison J. Bounel...
HE was stationed in Hawaii for a period of time. I’m wondering if he has knowledge of the Obama birth certificate.
He still has not been charged. What can he be charged with: reminding us about something we already knew.
He will have to be very careful that more information is a release of criminal activity
This gets crazier by the day.
Note what he says about news hub. My journalist friend who lived on Hong Kong says he’s where he should be. People regularly come from the mainland there to seek political asylum. Lawyers are quite successful in securing their freedom and relocating them
Funny that you just mentioned South America. So did she
My Prediction:
One or more Chinese nationals (probably with diplomatic immunity) will be picked up by the FBI for ‘espionage’. Oh not to worry, they’ll have hard evidence from places like the NSA, CIA, etc. They won’t be allowed to talk to lawyers under the Patriot Act. Then maybe a few rumors about shipping them to GITMO.
The Chinese will scream foul, and someone from the U.S. Embassy in Beijing will stroll over and ensure the Chinese there is no reason to be alarmed and this little diplomatic kerfuffle will all go away...
... as soon as Edward Snowden is in U.S. custody.
Then the ball will be in the Chinese’s court. - Just a prediction.
I can’t help thinking that this recent clockwork flood of scandals...Benghazi, Verizon, IRS, NSA, EPA and State Dept...are being systematically orchestrated to incite civil disobedience and riots, resulting in marshal law, and ending in a third term for Oba-One. Call me crazy, but that’s my take on it all.
The only flaw in your theory is that Baraq feels he needs more leisure time. I don’t see him going past Jan 2017.
Let me add to that irritation. I've done a little digging.
Take a look at the Cover Page Chart from the released Powerpoint slides. You will read:
PRISM/US-984xn

or
The SIGAD used most in NSA reporting
Overview
What makes this interesting is this small item from Wikipedia:
"A SIGINT Activity Designator (or SIGAD) identifies a signals intelligence (SIGINT) line of collection activity associated with a signals collection station, such as a base or a ship."
"PRISM SIGAD
The most active SIGAD as of April 2013 is US-984XN, with an unclassified codename of PRISM. It is "the number one source of raw intelligence used for NSA analytic reports" according to National Security Agency sources in a document leaked by Edward Snowden. The President's Daily Brief, an all-source intelligence product, cited SIGAD US-984XN as a source in 1,477 items in 2012.[5] The U.S. government operates the PRISM electronic surveillance collection program through NSA's Special Source Operations, an alliance with trusted telecommunications providers."
Interesting also how this extradition fight will pit westernized Hong Kong against commie Beijing. Perhaps Obama is looking to start yet another civil war abroad in favor of tyranny.
Btw..house hearing is about to begin.
Was funny reading the posts attacking Snowden. He was an incompetent low level who did not reveal anything that was not already known, while at the same time he was a traitor. Sometimes the statist have no clue how stupid they sound.
Cuba will soon tip over from all the Americans swimming to a better life.
