The Resume of NSA Leaker Edward Snowden: Stunning (High school drop-out makes $200K year?)
Doug Ross @ Journal ^ | June 9, 2013

Posted on 06/09/2013 8:20:43 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

I'd hate to be in the Public Relations department at government contractor Booz Allen Hamilton this weekend. It's not just the fact that Snowden is/was a Booz employee.

Booz Allen Hamilton, Edward Snowden's employer, is one of America's biggest security contractors and a significant part of the constantly revolving door between the US intelligence establishment and the private sector.

The current of director [sic] of national intelligence (DNI), James Clapper, who issued a stinging attack on the intelligence leaks this weekend, is a former Booz Allen executive.

And it's not just that DNI Clapper is an ex-BAH exec and his statement is just a tad embarrassing.

No, let's examine the reported resume of Snowden (dates are estimated):

• Raised in Elizabeth City, North Carolina and later moved to Maryland.

• Attended a community college, but never completed his coursework and never graduated from high school.

• 2003-2004: U.S. Army, discharged after training accident

• 2005: NSA, Security Guard, University of Maryland.

• 2006: CIA, IT security.

• 2007-2009: CIA, diplomatic cover, Switzerland.

• 2009-2013: NSA Contractor, Dell and later Booz Allen Hamilton.

• Salary: around $200,000.

What? Seriously? So a guy who never even graduated from high school (he later reportedly earned a G.E.D.) and started his professional career as a security guard, got hired by a couple of defense contractors and -- at age 29 -- was making $200K a year?

If this story is true, I don't know what's more bizarre: the leak itself or the sheer profligacy of the federal spending machine.

I know a kid like that. About the same age. He didn’t finish high school because basically he had taken all the courses that mattered to him and he was bored so he just quit going. He obsessed about computers and was a self taught genius level geek. Last I heard he was working at a consulting firm for six figures while his class mates were still slogging their way through college. I haven’t heard anything about Matt lately. Hope he’s okay.

Education a measure of worth? Screw off, I have a high school degree and could out design Phd’s. I could see computer architecture where others could not. My salary was based on productivity not my lack of degree. BS, MS, PhD (piled higher and deeper). I resent the idea that a person’s station in life is their level of education. Supercilious prig. Screw off!

I have this crazy idea that Benghazi was known about ahead of time. Somebody is going to leak that—have proof. OK, it’s a dream but sometimes dreams are nice.

Yeah, an Army 25 series or 35 series can acquire some very valuable skills, add that to already having security clearance and they can make some serious money working as or for a government contractor and some other jobs.

Unfortunately, that's the way things are headed. I saw my position go to a numbskull because he held a BA and a TS, even though the position only called for a Secret and I had the background and experience. Contracting has turned into a good-old-boys network of those who jumped through the hoops.

All he has to do is pass a certification test to prove he is qualified to do whatever the certification is for.

If techs had to sit in 4 year college classes to learn this kind of stuff and get certification what they learned would be obsolete by the time they got it.

Bill Gates dropped out too- he makes a heck of lot more so it should not surprise you at all.

Kids graduate every year who can not read and do more than simple math - a diploma is worthless for something like this. All it means is you sat through so many hours/years of classes .... could have been twiddling your thumbs the entire time.

With a GED there is proof you can at least do algebra. Don’t knock a GED these days when so many graduate and get diplomas who are illiterate.

Americans who think you need a college degree to get a good paying job are suckers . Lots of people with worthless degrees are flipping burgers.

You got to ask yourself who put him in place. Another craig livingstone story. WHO hired him and why?

This goes out to the Threat Matrix Ping List. Anyone wanting on or off, you knowthe routine, I think.

Now wait...he was working there after out of the CIA...

However....there was a time when the government...even under Bush...was recruiting scads of Computer Geeks with little or no history as the standard was at that time...security checks were not as well comp[leted for time eliments etc....promoting many of them rapidly who had the skills needed at a time there were not enough to handle the volume of intelligence checking that was happening on line.

Snowden might have very well been one of the scads of techies let in without too much checking beforehand.......this guy was on the computer traveling the world as a kid...like most geeks do...they wanted computer geeks...fast!

Perhaps the globalism you write about is a cover for the communism. Believe me, the Communists have always had the global interest in mind. World Communism has always been their goal.

That's a non issue. I have been overseen by people in their 20's just out of college making ~125-150K/year in pay and benefits who's primary task was making sure I knew how to properly fill a hole with thin cement...

Pay, intelligence/education level, and job task are not a metric amongst bureaucrats or cronies, it just IS...

Booz-Allen was paying him the $200,000 for working in Hawaii. If you look at the cost of living...even a regular person can’t make it off $60,000 in Hawaii. He would have been down-sized once he returned to the US...probably down to $140,000 a year.

As for the amount of each contract....this is the ongoing argument about how the whole government-contractor relationship has gotten out of hand.
