Becky Gerritson FTW! (‘I’m not begging my lords for mercy. I’m a born free American woman’)
The Other McCain ^ | June 4, 2013 | Smitty

“I am not here as a serf or vassal. I am not begging my lords for mercy. I’m a born free American woman, wife, mother and citizen. And I’m telling my government that you’ve forgotten your place. It’s not your responsibility to look out for my well-being, and to monitor my speech. It’s not your right to assert an agenda. Your post, the post that you occupy, exists to preserve American liberty. You’ve sworn to perform that duty. And you have faltered.”

Back in the day, this used to be called speaking truth to power. More of this is bound to happen, until truth wins, as it always does--even if in the meantime, as James Russell Lowell wrote,

Careless seems the great Avenger; history’s pages but record
One death-grapple in the darkness ’twixt old systems and the Word;
Truth forever on the scaffold, Wrong forever on the throne,—
Yet that scaffold sways the future, and, behind the dim unknown,
Standeth God within the shadow, keeping watch above his own.

I think these Tea Party groups got greedy and thought the $$$ would come rolling in if people could exempt their donations...something that didn’t happen. They gave up their freedom for the prospect of making money.

No, not quite. These people sought a level playing field with their opponents, liberal groups that enjoy tax favoritism. They were denied.

You can’t rail against the big government mess while taking advantage of it. That’s hypocrisy and leads to the compromising of principles.

You can certainly take advantage of the system, get inside, and shut it down.

I think many of these Tea Party leaders aren’t really leaders...they’re sheeple.

What's your plan, exactly? Please list your successes.

“They have been dynamic in these hearings and I think we need to applaud them instead of debasing them.”

Other than the Watergate hearings, have you ever seen a congressional hearing that actually accomplished anything except for the ‘show’?

When they take real action then I might start to believe.

“I respect what you are saying, but sadly I do not feel the same way.

I need to see actual action that has meaning and results. Dynamic on hearings is all well and good, but nothing has changed.

Personally, I do not care if they ever say anything at all again.

Now is the time to do.

I mean no disrespect to you or your post, but I have felt this way for some time now.”

I agree. Boustany from Louisiana was on Greta tonight and he was gutless to me... “measured response, let it play out, get all the facts” Normal political crap.

Get rid of the IRS is what they need to be saying. File your taxes on a post card. Everybody pays the same proportion of their income above some threshold... simple, proportional.

The politicians love the tax code though. They understand it is one of the places from which they derive their power. The power to punish enemies and favor friends who favor them.

I was born in Missouri. Show me.

“I was born in Missouri. Show me.”

That is great ^^ Awesome way to put it, Sequoyah!

I am of the same mind.

You abuse your power, you lose your power. That’s all, nothing else. Game over for the IRS, the other details of its dissolution are less important and can be figured out after the American people are no longer being persecuted by unanswerable political tyrants.

The government may go without income for time? So what. Should have thought of that before they engaged in this. The government could go without money forever for all I care.

Every person given the trust of the public purse should be VERY hesitant to spend it. The question, “Is it necessary?” should be on equal footing to, “Is it Constitutional?”

IRS is only necessary because politicians created a tax code that can’t be managed without a gargantuan and invasive hoodlum organization like the IRS.

The other question should be, “Is this good for me or the people I represent?” He should also know that protecting the rights of the people who earn the money must come first. Anything else is just plain totalitarian robbery.

“I think these Tea Party groups got greedy and thought the $$$ would come rolling in if people could exempt their donations...something that didn’t happen. They gave up their freedom for the prospect of making money.”

Nonsense. Contributions to a 501(c)(4) are not tax deductible. That status means that the organization is not taxable. But that’s because inflow and outflow are supposed to be about equal over time. It’s a form of non-profit organization.

“You can’t rail against the big government mess while taking advantage of it. That’s hypocrisy and leads to the compromising of principles.”

Nonsense again. If you mean business, you will take advantage of every crack in the death star to destroy it. Once it is disintegrating into space, I’ll go back to worrying about ideological purity.

Definitely worth repeating.
