A Canadian student in Calgary has been suspended for saving the life of a classmate from a knife-wielding bully, according to the National Post.
13-year-old Briar MacLean stepped in between an assailant, whose name has not been released, who was brandishing a knife while attacking another student. MacLean pushed the attacker away, and the bully was subdued.
MacLean was thanked by the victim; the young man then went about his day at school. However, several periods later, according to both Briar and the school, he "got called to the office and... wasnt able to leave until the end of the day. He received the equivalent of in-school suspension.
The reason? A teacher had seen what MacLean had done, told the principle, who then phoned the police... on Briar. The police then searched the young man's locker and he was asked for a statement.
Briar's mother, Leah ODonnell, recalled asking the teacher who reported her son about the incident: I asked: In the time it would have taken him to go get a teacher, could that kids throat have been slit? She said yes, but thats beside the point. That we dont condone heroics in this school.

This makes absolutely no sense by any standard of human decency. The “authorities” should be mocked out of a job and never work again. Was the “bully” a homo looking to pack a little fudge or something?

i guess the moral of the story is, STILL stick up for your friends/classmates, but let the faculty fend for themselves...

If my kid saved a life and got punishment which that was, my kid would not be in that school after that day. Wouldn’t want my kid to lose his “moxie” and become a subservient serf.

Let me see I have this correct, the “Teacher and “Principle” would be ok if the bully slit someones throat as long as nobody attempted to save them.

what the f**k is wrong with this school??? Ludicrous!! I am at a total loss for words?

I’ve been watching “The Rifleman” on AMC the last couple months. They are showing episodes from 1959 to 1960 lately. It is so refreshing watching Lucas McCain (Chuck Conners) portray a real man. Times were sure different in the 50s and early 60s.

I remember it well - and many other shows of that time. It's interesting to note that Jean Stapleton died yesterday. All the kudos coming in for her - I thought that show - "All in the Family" - did more to tear down American Society than anything the overt Commies could ever do.
The crudity and license we are confronted with in the media today got their first lift when the toilet flushed in the first episode of that show. Damn them all to Hell - especially that Norman Lear!

And this from a country whose soldiers fought like lions and poured out rivers of blood in two world wars. Men who landed on Juno Beach on June 6th. 1944 and into a maelstrom of enemy fire and suffered losses second only to those of our soldiers on Omaha Beach. How sad.

It is called the “Benghazi Doctrine”.
Can’t risk a person going in to help, as that person might get hurt.
Heard a line on the old western “Rawhide” this morning - something to the effect of “Ya can’t only fight when the odds are in your favor”.

That statement perfectly demonstrates the danger of bureaucracies.
Strict adherence to the "rules" becomes more important than the people the "rules" are supposed to protect.
