In a plea agreement revealed on Thursday, Staff Sgt. Robert Bales has agreed to plead guilty to the killing of 16 Afghan Civilians last year. Bales hopes to avoid the death penalty with the deal. The plea hearing is set for June 5th and the deal has yet to be accepted by the presiding judge.

The deal requires SSgt Bales to present a full account of the murders he committed and prove to the presiding judge that he clearly understands the consequences of the charges against him and of the plea deal.

If the plea deal is accepted the sentencing hearing will be scheduled for September. According to the Uniform Code of Military Justice the mandatory minimum punishment is a life sentence.

Major case of battle fatigue / PTSD. Armed forces too small, commitments too many, combat rotations too frequent & too long.

Man, they are sure hurrying this guy along.

Meanwhile, "Major" Hassan still has not gone to trial. I wonder if Bales had refused to shave what would have happened to him.

If all the reports are true, this fellow really snapped, went out into the “ville”, and went complete nutzoid. I won’t countenance it for any reason any more than I would give that bastard Nidal Hasan any leeway. In fact, that is one case that should have moved on much more quickly, and to heck with this “WORKPLACE VIOLENCE” DOD conclusion the Obama-ites came up with so it would not step all over their narrative that they had wiped out radical Islam terrorism (the same reason they lied about the real firefight at Benghazi).

Yea....maybe he should ‘prison-convert’ to Islam and go muzzie...claim the ones he shot and he did them over the misplaced rage of a workplace environment.

If he has the blood of innocents on his hands, he should be strung up and swing like a headless piñata. That would be justice.

Because of his actions, many others will now lose their lives.

Ten year wars are ridiculous. Sending a man on multiple tours in some hellhole until he cracks up is even more ridiculous.

If you go to war, it needs to be quick and so horrendous for your enemy that he surrenders quickly. If your enemies are scared of you, they won't attack you.

He should say “I did it, I’m proud, go ahead and kill me”. He’d get a nice mental ward instead of Leavenworth.

****Ten year wars are ridiculous.***

When N-Korea invaded South Korea, Joseph Stalin said he wanted the war to last a long time as Americans hated long wars and would soon grow weary of it.

That’s because they knew/know that our politicians wouldn’t and still won’t use the full might of our arsenal to keep the peace. Peace through strength. Prolonging wars just increases the casualties on both sides and weakens us.

And if he has diminished capacity because of previous head injuries?

If he is responsible for the blood of innocents on his hands, and if he did that out of “diminished capacity”, classify him as an animal and put him out if his misery, lest “diminished capacity” be turned into a free pass for murderers.

That category already has been used as a free pass amongst CIVILIANS. However, I would be interested to know if he was wearing a helmet device which can actually record the severity of a blast which can cause TBI, or traumatuc Brain Injury. IF he was put back into action by the military due to stop loss orders, they MAY bear SOME of the blame. IF he was just drunk and PO’d, then I agree he should hang.
