This thesis is hilarious for conservatives, who have embraced Carson for his quintessentially American rise as well as the fact that he advocates conservatism, and for whom the concept of the Conservative Black Hope (to use Coates phrase) is not really a thing. No, I wouldn't say that. I think we do have a "Conservative Black Hope" thing, at least to the extent that we hope a conservative black can explain what conservativism actually is to liberal blacks, because they certainly won't listen to anyone who ISN'T black.
