Now, in a move to ramp up support for immigration reform, Pres. Obama has made the following declaration:
“Unless you are one of the first Americans, unless you are a Native American, you came from someplace else. That’s why we’ve always defined ourselves as a nation of immigrants. And we’ve always been better off for it.”
Liberals seems to forget history a little bit, well a lot bit. It doesn’t matter whether you were born here, or your family came last week, last year, one hundred years ago, or two thousand. Nobody’s ancestors are the original natives of this land. My family came here to North Carolina in the 1600′s, yet I guess that still makes me a colonist. Ever heard of the Bering Strait? Even current Native Americans immigrated here from there. We are all “from someplace else.”

Most of them came from Siberia/Manchuria/NE Asia, the rest came from SE Asia/Polynesia. None, so far as we know, originated in the Americas.

King Philippe II/III didn't give it to England ~ rather the area South of Acadia to North of Carolana was just there to settle. Critical reading of the Treaty of London (1604) will pretty much settle all your concerns.
The Brits were first off the dime in organizing settlement companies ~ then the Dutch (who were actually prohibited in the treaty from even stopping for fresh water in Virginia), then more English then Swedes.
Over time Spain began to lose both control of and interest in North America North of their La Florida settlements. The French had more interest, and the Scots had interest but we usually bury them in under the English ambitions.
But, let's go back to the beginning ~ 1598 ~ that's the year King Philippe I/II died, as did Queen Elizabeth! Younger people with a pan European vision moved ahead to figure out how to make North America useful ~ at that time it was deep in drought and had been for many years, so that was one heck of a vision!
This really wasn't the place folks wanted to come to back then, but in 1598 there were adventurers of all sorts who began the hard work of measuring and surveying the land. At the moment I think Spain paid for the job since several of the bench marks appear to have been installed under direct Spanish military supervision. 90 degrees West appears to have been a prime meridian for all American surveys ~ and that'd been Spain doing that job but with the same contractors that did the other lines.
