Ever notice it's mostly the Leftist elites, politicians and media who keep bringing this up, not the Tea Party or the GOP? Waco was (a) a cult, not anti-government or small government people, (b) an isolated incident, so that the federal government could concentrate their forces there, and (c) a compound out in the sticks, not in an urban or suburban situation.

Maher doesn’t strike me as the type who would want to prevent tyranny anyway. I think he’s the type that would prefer to stand around wetting his pants.

Maher is right, the 2nd ameendment won’t prevent Tyranny....
But it sure as hell will stop it once it is bold enough to start being tyrannical towards the people.

Something that some people don’t understand, is that it isn’t just about the killing, it is about the dying as well.
Liberals look at it as a match between the two armories and numbers and organization and political power and training, etc.
What they don’t see is how an argument within a nation changes as the government wins the battles, but loses a war.
Arms mean that the people die dearly, loudly, and in large numbers, over a longggg, sustained period of time.
Under those conditions scenarios change, there isn’t a straight line anymore with all results determinable from the starting balance sheet.

Maher is saying what he's been told to say.
If the government believed that our being armed was quaint and nonsensical, they wouldn't be in such an all-fired rush to disarm us. Now would they?
(It was quaint and nonsensical to think that peasants armed with surplus weapons from the First World War could hold off the might of the US Military in VietNam I suppose, as well.)

Sounds like a great argument for legalizing military grade weapons.
To: 2ndDivisionVet
When these people say the Government I assume they mean the US Military acting for the Politcal leaders.
If an armed revolt were to start under say an asswad Anti-American dipshit like Obama who hates the military and has screwed it over so much, I have a feeling that a very LARGE amount of the US Military would not act to defend the Political leaders but would act to defend the Constitution.
This is something people like these can not understand or comprehend..

The Government created and caused Waco. I think they learned a lesson there
because there hasn't been another one since. So yes, fighting back does
keep tyranny in check. And it was the DemocRATs
who killed all those
innocent Women and Children, Maher.

I gather the Mexicans thought the same thing after the Alamo. Fact is Waco was mostly women and children corralled into one place. Open warfare will be quite different.
In this day and age, guerilla warfare will easily wear them down regardless of their superior fire power. Liberals can’t stomach a real fight.

Leftist poodle skirted cheerleaders like Maher think with emotion rather than the truth. He thinks that by having the First Amendment to say anything he wants, he has everything he needs. If he bought pies like he buys his freedoms, he would buy pie without the apple.
Our Second Amendment guarantees our freedom through this thing called asymmetric warfare. It is the same war strategy that won the Revolutionary War. It is the same war we are winning now against the criminal who wants to rob the law abiding of their life and treasure.

To be honest, he’s kind of right.
Sort of like how a third world nation thinks that having some rifles against the US military will actually make a difference.
It’s not like bringing a knife to a gun fight, it’s like bringing a rock to gun fight.

Is this another attempt at a joke by the alleged comedian, Bill Maher?
To: 2ndDivisionVet
You know what they had in Waco? They had like 1.9 million rounds of ammunition; they had .50 caliber machine guns; they had grenades
What did the government have? Everything else. The winner and still champion the United States government And, that, Bill, is maybe why the FBI, the ATF, the DOJ, et al have earned the undying hatred of millions of Americans. With their "everything," they succeeded in burning up dozens of children, women and men under a siege that could have been prevented much, much earlier by the ATF. Bill, a real American would not be so proud of that stain on our history.

Guns not prevent tyranny???
I’m betting it will work a lot better than having nothing to defend yourself with.
As much as we hate to think it, the Afghanis have lasted well with fairly basic weapons.

To Bill I would respond, "Let's look at it this way. The real question is are you willing to kill to take my arms away? Are you willing to die trying, because I am both. I see it as a DUTY. An obligation."
