On Thursday night [Friday morning] at 12:45am EST. I was in my living room working on my computer when I heard multiple “pops” coming from outside. At that point, I had no idea that I was about to become an eye witness to the biggest news story in the country.
When I looked outside my window, I could clearly see two people (the Tsarnaev brothers) taking cover behind an SUV and engaging in gunfire. After witnessing shots being fired I promptly ran up the stairs to my 3rd floor bedroom to distance myself a little further away from the gunfire. As I ran into my room, overwhelmed by shock, adrenaline, and curiosity, I jumped onto my bed to stay below the windows but also have a clear view at the shooters and photograph the event. As soon as I was laying safely on my bed I started taking pictures with my iPhone 5 and captured the following images that documented the terrifying shootout with the Tsarnaev brothers, which then led to an overnight citywide manhunt.

The shooters were also driving the green sedan on the left. They had the back passenger door open and were going back into the car where they had additional supplies (assumingly, more ammunition and explosives). They also had backpacks at their feet where they also had additional supplies.
This is a view from the west-facing window in my bedroom and at the end of the block (Laurel St.) you can see multiple police vehicles. These vehicles were about 75-80 yards from the shooters. (Taken at 12:46:25AM)

Went back and looked at pics.
One gets the silent treatment in the head and the other gets a couple of chest wounds then a well place head shot.
across the street? I shoot and that angle? I shoot at the clavicles and and it’s lights out as a boat tail goes splat! through the frontal lobe and tears off a huge plate of skull going out the back side.....
I don't know. If any of the neighbors had a rifle, it would have been easy to shoot at least one of them. But in the real world of Massachusetts, If I were there I would worry about being sued or arrested for joining the gunfight.

Too bad he didn’t have an AR-15 to shoot them with instead of an iPhone. Two shots and game over! I wouldn’t even say anything to anyone. Let them figure it out at the morgue if they could.

LOL To be real honest; I’d probably do it less out of civic duty than the sentiment that “you don’t pull that kind of crap outside my house.” Just personal security. No more perps no more gun fire. “Get off of my lawn!”

With the view the photog had I could have dropped the terrorists with one of my rifles. Easily. Trust me on that or assume it arguendo.
Questions: Given the police were in a firefight for there lives, would that have been a proper thing to do? (Rhetorical - for the clueless and obamabot lurkers, but I repeat myself, the answer is yes even if it cost me my life - see below.) In Massachusetts, would I have faced charges for doing so? Also given the circumstances, would I have received return fire from the police who I was trying to protect? (I excpect so.)
Last question: what would you Freepers have done in that position of properly armed?

Really good photos that tell a story...trust the guy who took them has given these to the authorities....golly you see the two with guns firing and then the bomb they set off....
I remember reading the kid tore off police car doors as he sped over his brother and rammed thru the barricade.

Shoot first..ask questions later...reason...Freepers were staying with the chase from about the get go..so they would know these two were the ones from the chase...not so sure would have known Bombers though...
However..it did take a little time for “other” officers to get there...started with two, then 6 then and 12...
