Legal immigration balances economics with opportunity
Glenwood Springs Post Independent ^ | April 16, 2013 | James D. Kellogg

The fate of 12 million illegal aliens estimated to be living in the United States is hotly debated in Washington, D.C. Unfortunately, the problem is a symptom of beltway politicians' failure to enforce immigration laws and modernize our legal immigration system. At this point, some form of legal status for many illegal residents is necessary for a practical solution.

But every elected leader has an obligation to ensure America remains the land of opportunity. That means stopping the current tide of illegal entry and residency with improved border security and visa tracking. At the same time, we must reformulate and expedite our legal immigration process with emphasis on American economics instead of border proximity.

Most illegal aliens currently in the United States crossed our southern border. The media gleefully harps that Barack Obama garnered about 70 percent of the Latino vote in the 2012 election. Thus, Democrats see amnesty as the key to a permanent political majority. It starts with legalization of today's illegal residents and continues with millions that will follow tomorrow and evermore.

The Democratic Party and activist groups like La Raza contend immigration is a Hispanic matter. They are fostering a culture of dependency with public assistance programs and “no strings attached” amnesty, knowing it will bolster their vote count.

In truth, immigration is about people from all nations, races, and cultures. Individuals from all over the world deserve equal treatment in their efforts to live and work in the United States. Legal immigration is vital for the economic sustainability of America. And it ensures that immigrants will have a better future, founded on sustained employment and personal responsibility.

Most estimates put the numbers of illegals at much over 20 million. http://www.vdare.com/posts/how-many-illegals

The elites always win and average Americans always lose, just as “free trade” did to the USA. We the people typically get the story from the elites to benefit only the elites. It made the Harvard NYC money changers rich while it killed our national economy and put our nation into debt to China.

Gobbledygook. If the problem is the failure to enforce our immig laws, then those lawmakers who go along with this should be impeached or otherwise removed from office. If the existing laws are not enforced, then making new ones is an idiotic exercise in creating a subterfuge that other laws will all of a sudden be enforced.

There IS a legal status for those here illegally. It is called “illegal”. WTF is the idea with corrupting our language and our laws? Why should we corrupt our Constitution? Why should we let let these slimebags (who re-instituted insider stock trading for themselves today, by the way) play with our system? They have bungled virtually everything they have come up with, certainly in this administration, but in plenty of others! Their track records SUCKS!!

And most importantly, why should we engender and encourage a whole class of generally dependent people to scoff at our laws? It encourages a crappy attitude towards our laws, and it engenders the president making up and/or not enforcing laws on the fly. This is also coming from the bankster class who is never prosecuted for bank frauds. If we are a nation of laws, why should we destroy our laws? What if we were plumbers? Should we go around telling people we are crappy plumbers and the way we do plumbing does not work? Suppose we live in this thing we call a house? Should we throw garbage on the floor and let weeds grow and never clean it up nor pick up crap we drop on the floor?

Why should we allow vandalism to destroy our house? This is what 0bama is, more than anything else. He is a juvenile delinquent who wants to spray-paint his name on your garage door, and he doesn’t care what you paid for the door, what you’ll have to pay to get it fixed and he doesn’t care that you have to go through the dismay of seeing your garage door grafitti’ed. He doesn’t care about you or what you have or what he might fancy taking away from you one day.

I sent the following letter to both of my senators:

Dear Senator _________,

I am opposed to S. 744, the Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act and strongly encourage you to vote against this bill when it comes to a floor vote in the Senate. Politicians from both political parties are treating American citizenship as though it were a prize to be won on a TV game show. It is not. In no other country on earth is illegal immigration treated as lackadaisically as it is here in America. In Mexico, illegal immigrants are first sentenced to a term in prison before being deported to their home country. They are not rewarded with offers of citizenship, reduced or even free college tuition or access to public health and welfare institutions as we currently do with illegal immigrants.

Many claim that the illegal immigrants only seek a better life in America and are doing no harm. However, simply coming uninvited to America is a crime because they are ignoring and violating both our national sovereignty as well as our existing immigration laws. In addition, for many to obtain work, they purchase forged Social Security cards or other false documentation indicating that they are legal residents of the United States. These forged/falsified documents are violations of federal laws to which members of both political parties turn a blind eye.

The fact is that by refusing to enforce existing laws and imprisoning or deporting illegal immigrants, we are encouraging more to come. Many more. And, come they have bringing diseases, crime and questionable backgrounds that are increasingly burdening law enforcement. In many places, the “catch and release” programs only encourage additional crimes and are an insult to American citizens who would not be eligible for the same treatment. And, none of these equate to the drain that illegal immigrants have placed on our social, health and welfare services that have caused many cities and states to increase taxes in order to be able to continue providing these services to the American taxpayers who pay for them.

Above all, Senator, I have reached my limit of being treated like a foreigner in my own country. Everywhere I turn, there are Spanish language commercials on radio and television channels as well as Spanish billboards, and both English and Spanish labels on items available on store shelves. More often than not, because many store stocking positions are held by Spanish Speakers, it is not uncommon for an item to be placed on a store shelf with the Spanish label to the aisle and the English label to the back of the shelf.

Finally, I would also ask why the federal government requires that election ballots be printed in both English and Spanish? One of the requirements of a naturalized American citizen is that he/she be able to speak, read and understand conversational English. That being the case, why is it necessary to print election ballots in any language other than English? The taxpayers could save a lot of money each election if ballots were printed only in the traditional language of the United States, English!

Thank you, Senator.

I like it. Too bad for us that most of these Senators don’t work for Americans. They work for the special interests whose interests rarely coincides with Americans.
