It has been almost 20 years since Congress has taken up the topic of gun control legislation.
As the new debate over gun control heats up, senior Senate aides on both sides of the issue laid out advocates plan to get their bill through the Senate.
The strategy advocated by gun control supporters in the Senate was described to BuzzFeed by two senior Republican Senate aides working to oppose the effort, and confirmed by a Democratic Senate leadership aide working to get it passed.
Prospects for the gun control legislation weren't looking good until the recent Toomey/Manchin proposal.
The legislation proposed by Republican Sen. Pat Toomey and Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin would expand background checks for those looking to purchase guns, while providing some exemptions.
The new Toomey/Manchin language will replace the old background check language currently in the bill and will be championed as bipartisan....

The constitution has failed.
Except in that it successfully created the insatiable beast that shall consume every bit of freedom that ever existed in this country.
The constitution itself hasn’t failed - the “leaders” that have sworn to protect and defend it have failed. Repeatedly.
Imagine, a simple document that withstood assault for well over 200 years. Given human nature and history, that is somewhat amazing.
It is an amazing document, and it did stand that long, in fact I will say that it is still standing.
But sadly it is also the document that created the beast that will consume us all.
I would say that future societies should not fool themselves into thinking that they can create centralized power entities that can be controlled in the long run. The very fact that such relies upon mankind to control its appetites dooms any such creation to failure.
A man must rule himself. The very instant he empowers another to rule him, then he is ruled.
