No one should be allowed to throw a region and even the whole world into chaos for selfish gains, said President Xi Jinping on Sunday at a regional forum hosted by Beijing.
Immediately, global media interpreted the remarks as a rebuke of North Korea. The New York Times, for instance, called Xis words an indirect but clear criticism of Chinas longtime ally.
Has Beijing finally made the switch from supporting Pyongyang to siding with the international community?
Most everyone thinks so. After all, who else could Xi have been referring to on Sunday?
(snip)
Not so fast. On Monday, Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei refused to confirm that Xi had North Korea in mind when he uttered those words.
And the following day, Peoples Daily, the Communist Partys flagship publication, issued a stinging commentary, leaving no doubt who Xi thought was the culprit.
Some country has spent hundreds of billions of U.S. dollars creating a situation that cannot be resolved and has eventually withdrawn in a disorganized manner at the same time causing a financial crisis in its own country, stated a commentary titled Who Has the Intention to Create Chaos for the World for Selfish Gain? Look back on the worlds security situation to the beginning of the new century. There are many hot spots and chaotic spots. The first of them are Afghanistan and Iraq.

Pres Obama and Sec Hagel "Hope for the best", gave stern warnings. Sec Fn Kerry in South Korea (later going to China) to do his kabuki dance.
Yay, we were told THE belligerent cowboy was out, our country was/is in mature hands now.
Oh I get it. China was getting NK to threaten us all along thinking we would retaliate so they and best new bud, Russia, would have an excuse to nuke us out of existence. Glad no rash decisions were made...
China — our “strategic partner” in Asia.
You good boy.
China will not side with NK and is as irritated by these shenanigans as we are.

Free Trader Communists who continue to push Free Trade with Communist China are the biggest reasons why we keep having NoKo problems.... as Communist China is the Sugar Daddy for the NoKos.
We keep financing the Kim’s and NoKo by proxy when we continue to ship our American wealth to Communist China
The minute you start putting competitive tariffs on the Communist Chinese...you begin easing a lot of tension in that part of the world.... and improve the US economy at the same time
Continued support of Free Trade with Communist China is being a Communist
Nothing happens in NK without the PRC’s approval.
A complete opposite to “aristocratic, cultured, excellent, high, noble, refined, sophisticated, superior”.
I gotta agree with you there.
China seems to be manipulating our relationship only to one side, ever:
China.
Every now and then they'll get invaded and change their minds for a while, but then they end up reverting to the old policy where they assume seniority counts and treat the folks on the Korean peninsula as a semi-autonomous semi-colony full of crazy people.
That does not mean the Middle Kingdom tolerates American involvement in any part of the peninsula, but they'll put up with that for a while ~ actually a long while.
The NORKS, however, have a traditional posture with China ~ they even speak highly of Chinese civilization and always praise the current leaders and as soon as they can get them out of the place they set about devising some way to keep them out.
Sure, the NORKS threaten everybody else with their nukes and submarines ~ and missiles. it's consistent with everything that's gone before.
Did you know that in the depths of the Dark Ages the Tang dynasty sent 180,000 troops to assist Silla in unifying the peninsula under one king. Then they went home.
Folks who assume the Chicoms are necessarily allied to the NORKS probably ought to review that piece of history ~ fur shur the Chicoms have.
In other news, the Pope is still Catholic and bears still...
But only at the conclusion of the Silla-Tang War, which lasted 6 years:
The Silla-Tang alliance, which had defeated both the Korean kingdoms of Baekje and (the much more powerful but at the time internally divided) Goguryeo, resulted in the occupation of the former territories of both of these kingdoms by coalition (i.e. Silla and Tang) armies. After the fall of Goguryeo in 668 AD, the Tang Emperor created the office of Protectorate General to Pacify the East and attempted to place the entire Korean Peninsula, including its erstwhile independent ally Silla, under its rule. The Silla-Tang alliance subsequently fell apart as the Tang tried to establish dominion over the Korean Peninsula through this new office and its former ally Silla resisted these efforts.Other Chinese dynasties generally stayed out of Korea probably because of the difficulty involved in fighting on the peninsula's rugged terrain, combined with the fact that wealth in antiquity was based on agriculture, and hilly land just wasn't worth fighting over, on a cost-benefit basis. This was why the Romans stayed out of Caledonia (Scotland)King Munmu of Silla had the unenviable challenge of freeing his country and hard-won conquests (particularly the entirety of what was formerly Baekje and some of the southern portions of what was formerly Goguryeo) from Tang domination. To achieve this, Munmu forged alliances with Goguryeo resistance leaders such as Geom Mojam and Anseung, and launched attacks on the Tang forces occupying territories formerly belonging to the conquered kingdoms of Baekje and Goguryeo. Starting almost immediately after the fall of Goguryeo in 668 AD and the establishment of the office of Protectorate General to Pacify the East, the struggle between the former allies lasted through much of the 670s AD.
“Some country has spent hundreds of billions of U.S. dollars”, borrowed from the Chinese.
If all hell breaks lose and the SHTF and we’re all on our own, it’s going to be very difficult not to shoot the first S.O.B. who says it wasn’t the democrats’ fault. I don’t think I’d want to depend on that kind of guy to go pick some berries for the group.
He he he. Why waste good ammo on such a one? Rope(s) should do.
And
Welcome to FR.
Then there's Wales ~ hilly, full of wild people, and not only occupied, a place where at least one Emperor was raised up!
I've thought for a long time that much of this could simply be explained by two factors ~ neither of which anyone knows much about. First, treaties signed with the natives ~ and adhered to for centuries, and retirement homes suitable for Roman soldiers and officers. Rome simply wouldn't have needed to occupy such areas.
Concerning Silla, in a time where there were only a handful of nationstates still operating on the planet in any way like they had before 535AD, the biggest and the most advanced sought out each other for military incursions ~ occupations ~ wars ~ intrigue.
I think Silla's problem was a regular bleeding of talent ~ particularly military talent ~ to the task of occupying the Japanese islands. Took them almost 900 years to get that job done. By then the Japanese certainly did not think of themselves as being Korean in any way, shape or form, Still don't!
Just as Messrs. Obama and Hagel cut the Precision Tracking Space System completely out of the budget:

Hmmmm, commpletely missed that tidbit.
Thanks.
(1) The left absolutely hate HATE Reagan's “stupid” Star War idea, they are willing to do anything to ridicule it.
(2) If the PTSS is still in the early development stage, nowhere near deployment in space, then I can see why.
But still I don't know in the scheme of things (i.e., the whole big picture) how much it cost for the development vs. other wish-list items.
