Expecting an open debate in the Senate on the upcoming illegal alien amnesty bill? Don't bet on it.

Sen. Pat Leahy (D-VT), the Senate Judiciary Chairman, indicated that he will expedite "immigration reform" by skipping further committee hearings on the legislation in a nasty letter to a leading Republican lawmaker.

I intend to proceed to comprehensive immigration reform with all deliberate speed,” Leahy wrote to Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., in a letter today informing Sessions that Republicans will only have one week to consider the immigration bill.

Leahy also said that past Congresses investigated the immigration issue enough that they don’t need to hold further hearings on this particular legislation.

“If any of the more junior Senators need time to get up to speed, I will look forward to them discussing their specific readiness problems with me directly and I will look forward to working with them as well,” he said.

Get that? PAST Congresses already discussed it - so there is no need to even discuss amnesty for 20+ million illegal aliens. Huh? What about the PEOPLE? Sorry, we don't get any public hearing whatsoever. Leahy just wants to push it through ASAP.

Sessions rejected such a schedule. “The Chairman’s suggestion that we don’t need hearings on this new proposal because we have held immigration hearings in the past misses the entire point: the massive proposal being cobbled together by a group of Senators in secret must be independently judged and reviewed by the Judiciary Committee in the full light of day,” he stated in response to Leahy’s letter, a process that would take months, in his estimation.

No member of Congress who believes in democratic procedure can acquiesce to the ramming through of a thousand-page bill that will dramatically and directly impact the taxes, wages, and security of our constituents,” Sessions added.

Sessions noted that the last significant immigration reform bill in the Senate, the Immigration Reform and Control Act, which was first introduced in 1982, had been preceded by “100 hours of hearings with 300 witnesses before marking up a bill. Congress continued to debate the bill for the next three years, and even then, the Judiciary Committee spent three months reviewing the bill before it was reported in August of 1985,” they wrote.

By comparison, for "immigration reform" this year, only three hearings have been held. But Leahy claims that “during the four Congresses that preceded this one,” or over the past eight years, an additional 40 hearings were held “on these issues.” So go fish.

Leahy dispensed with Senate decorum in addressing the letter to “Jeff,” even though he was responding to a letter sent by six lawmakers, and then got personal.

I understand your frustration as someone excluded from the group that Senator McCain has pulled together to try to develop a bipartisan proposal,” the Democratic chairman said. “That is not a beef you have with me.”

Leahy then cited the Republican National Committee “autopsy” report supporting comprehensive immigration reform as evidence that Sessions needs to "come around" on the issue.

“I am encouraged that after two resounding electoral defeats, some Republican politicians are concerned enough about the growing Hispanic voting population that they are abandoning their former demagoguery and coming to the table,” he said.

Nice guy, huh? You don't know the half of it. Pat Leahy truly is an S.O.B. of the lowest order, who was once forced to resign as Vice-Chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee for revealing classified info on numerous occasions. He really should have gone to prison. But in D.C., where the inmates run the asylum, he is instead Senate Judiciary Chairman.

Jeff Sessions is a patriot, who knows full well that the link between passing amnesty and gaining the Hispanic vote is completely phony, and is looking out for us.

Deliberate speed? OK. Deliberate means “slow.”

de·lib·er·ate

1.intentional: carefully thought out and done intentionally
2.careful: slow, careful, and methodical
3.think: to consider something carefully and in detail

Does Sessions not remember obamacare? I guess the key words are “who believes in democratic procedure”.
