On March 25th, Democrat Governor Mike Beebe vetoed legislation that would have created a voter ID law for Arkansas, saying it would "negatively impact one of our most precious rights as citizens."
Under current Arkansas law, "poll workers can request identifying documents, but voters are not required to show them." The rejected law would have required all voters to show ID and would have required county clerks to provide "ID cards... at no cost for registered voters who do not have other forms of valid identification."
Beebe cited the cost of supplying the ID cards as part of the reason for the veto as well.....

Can it be overridden or is it try again next year?
So, now the rights of a LEGAL, LAW-ABIDING citizen of Arkansas is thrown out the window by all the fraudulant votes cast that will more than nullify their one, legal vote. BS
DEMOCRAT Gov. Beebe is a VOTE FRAUD SUPPORTER!!
“negatively impact one of our most precious rights as citizens.”
...........................................................
You mean the right to vote without being a citizen, a resident, or even voting more than once?
I see something wrong with this guy’s societal priorities. If voting is a ‘ most precious right’ but as such cannot justify a legal ID, why do I have to have ID to drive for a lesser right as to my car. I take it that we as a society will do more as citizens to protect ‘lesser’ rights than we would do for ‘precious’ rights. For me the governor is a mixed up ‘I have a cause’ person.
Illegals took all the chicken plucking jobs us white trash folk used to do in Ark.
Apparently in AR, a simple majority in the legislature can override a Gubernatorial veto. The GOP has a majority.
Simple majority overrides veto. The state Senate voted to overturn, successfully, today. The state House will do so tomorrow. Beebe is termed out and now under the thumb of the GOP majorities in both legislative chambers.
Beebe is more Conservative than Huckabee - he just has a huge problem staying clear of the social issues and that is what will always brand him with that big "L". Hell, I even voted for him once.
Very good and thanks for the info.
And to the other poster- yes indeed, elections have consequences. Don’t ever stay home...ever.
They overrode it today.
Frankly, I think letting ineligible people vote “negatively impact[s] one of our most precious rights as citizens.” Requiring ID does not.
Our ELECTED REPUBLICANS need to look at this issue a bit more closely. The idea that any is “disenfranchized” by Voter ID is a JOKE. We know it, the Republicans know it, and even the DEMOCRATS know it, but yet they persist.
Why? Very simple. If the United States had EFFECTIVE Voter ID, it would set back the plans of the Democrats for a permanent majority by 20 YEARS!!! So they won’t let it happen.
What Republicans NEED TO UNDERSTAND is that Amnesty will do the same for the Democrats - and if Democrats become the PERMANENT MAJORITY because of Amnesty, then what do we have to hold our heads up about? WE LOSE!!!! They know it - and, maybe some day, we’ll figure out the same.
What is the balance in the AR House?
More Rs than Ds is all I know.
Thanks. That (should) work.

Every time I vote here in Arkansas I am asked for my ID! What gives with this!
