I grew up Queens, but I loved the outdoors and Scouting and camping, shootin’, snakes, fishin’, and hiking and wildlife (in the wild not on TV), etc. In the Army my section chief, a full-blooded Cherokee from Oklahoma, used to say “Bill Joe (his name for me) [Lonesome], ain’t no way you is a Yankee.” I took it as a compliment.
