What Makes a Good Bug-Out Location?
The Shooters Log ^ | 3/23/13 | CTD Blogger

Posted on 03/23/2013 12:53:07 PM PDT by Kartographer

I’m going to tell you a true story, but to protect my friend’s privacy and OPSEC—as all good preppers should do—I’m going to remain as anonymous as possible. I’m telling you because I believe in helping people and I like to imagine a world after SHTF where we help each other rather than hinder each other, so here it goes… I recently had the opportunity to visit a friend’s bug-out property. What started out as a dream for land outside of the city for a nice get-away to keep animals and a shooting range turned into the perfect place to start a bug-out plan in motion.

Keep raving, you reveal more and more of your twisted psyche with each new insult. There are lots of Freepers who do not post on the prepper threads, because they do not believe the fecalobama will hit the fan. They are, in the words of one of our more wise Freepers, caught up in the normalcy bias. But then there are a small few who make it their daily task to insult preppers and amplify the normalcy bias, almost as if they were sold out to the oligarchy proclaiming king obamaroid is fixin’ the nation.

You should be aware that what people say and what they mean are two different things. I am no fool to be taken in by your words.

Opinions are like...well you know the rest.

The solution is simple: If you don't care for a thread's subject, then don't click on it (hint: anything to do w/prepping). Don't go away mad, just go away.

The fact that you and you alone of all the great number of FReepers repeatedly post such shows you to be fixated with hate.

I've posted on what, maybe a dozen prepper threads over the past year, out of the thousands that you guys have clogged this forum with? And mostly just on the ones that are especially obnoxious.

I think you protest just a little too much, and I think it's because you know I have point: A few weeks of supplies makes sense. Anything beyond that is a strictly optional lifestyle choice or hobby. Which makes the lectures and the doom mongering from you people unjustified.

Okay, I’ve been watching you for the last couple of weeks and you a dissembler, a dissenter for the sole purpose finding relevancy and an outright crackpot.

It’s very obvious that you are not at all preppered for anything other than your daily rants and running your mouth.

Most of us come from real world experience which has taught us that being preppared and having what you need, largely, is better than being under prepared.

You don’t have the slightest idea what SHTF really means as you have never been stuck in a snow storm, hail storm, severe flooding that made national news, fires that cut you off from everyone else, mud and rock slides and Redwoods covering your one path to the store or doctor.

Or having a friend drop a whole cup of piping hot water on her and having a well supplied burn kit that took away the pain, mitigated blisters risking infection and tegard bandages to protect the wound. All without going to the doctor and protecting the ego of a 97 year old friend who thought the incident was a result of her age. It wasn’t.

Stuff happens.

I spent $50k on antiques a few years back and there was no realistic way of transporting my impulsive buy, without some fancy rope tying.

Skip that. I have 1,000 of 550 paracord, 4 NightEyes and a full complement of carabiners and belay equipment attached to my bag, which goes with me everywhere.

Everything was quickly secured and not one thing broke on a 500 mile drive.

Or a time when I was in Mexico and needed some water. Wasn’t a store around and though the little villagers offered me some of theirs, I wasn’t about to risk Montezuma’s revenge.

Luckily I had my Lifesaver bottle that purifies Katrina water.

I dropped into an a alligator swamp that was some sort of local attraction and after a few pumps, I was drinking pure water. On a hot, balmy Mexican day I needed it.

The little villagers were very excited and implored me to stop as the water of course very polluted.

I explained my tool and knowing they walk everyday 4 miles to get a couple of jugs water, decided they needed it more than me.

I had another one back at my friends home in Puerto Aventure and still another back home in the USA.

No big deal to me.

You add nothing of value to these threads but, derive plenty of pleasure giving people idiotic advice and generally burying a thread with your self serving posts.

Please go away. Your advice, imploring and lame imputations are going to get someone killed when all they needed was to be a little prepared.

Just want as many to see this man’s post and take warning. I have posted about his type before, but he is the first I have found on FR that fits the profile.

If you have been following our preppers’ threads you will find examples of the three types of people that I often warn fellow preppers about, two of the types are the “I’ve got lots of guns and plenty of ammo and I’ll just take what I need.” and the “I don’t prep because I don’t believe anything is going to happen, but if it does preppers should share with me.”

Call many of these people on their post and many will backdown or just not respond in their embarrassment, but many will reply back in righteous anger the same anger that you get from most Libs who are shocked and infuriated by preppers not putting sharing to the forefront. Even though many of us do, just we don’t to the point of endangering our own families.

Now as I said some the “I’ll take what I want crowd” when confronted will often back off saying things like “I was just joking”, but I don’t believe it. When I read their post I can’t help but think of this quote from one of my favorite westerns ’Open Range’: “Most times a man will tell you his bad intentions if you listen, let yourself hear.” I’ve ‘heard’ their intentions and they aren’t good.

The third type that I warn about are those who wish to bring God’s Armageddon into the discussion as if they know that it will be God’s will should some catastrophe befall us. They claim this despite the fact that the history of man is full of direr times which were caused by nature or man himself. History has shown us all too well that men do not need God to help them muck things up to a point were their fellows cry out for God to end it all and relieve them of their misery. Some of these I like to ask: “Do you wear a seatbelt when you drive or ride in a car? Do you have car insurance?” And if they reply yes then I tell them their faith must not be as strong as they claim.

The real problem with the ‘its God’s will’ crowd who will be that many will want to see you punished as they will see your prepping as you trying to dodging God’s punishment. This group along with the “I don’t prep, but you should share” group will be among the first to report you and your ‘hoarding’ to the powers that be in their efforts to make sure you too suffer just as they do. The first group because as I said they see you as trying to escape the rightful wrath of God (as if they know the Lord’s mind) and the second because you proved them wrong.

You can be fairly certain that all three groups will hate you as they will be quick to blame you for the ‘troubles’ because in their twisted way of thinking your prepping brought the ‘troubles’ and therefore you need to be punished for your transgressions.

To these three types I like to add a fourth the have hearted anti-prepper the ones that say well prepping for a couple weeks is OK, but anything beyond that is NUTS. Well if you were a couple of weeks prepper and lived in Sandy’s path I bet you are wishing you was a ‘six month prepper’. Many of these people are still in direr need and there is little to no help forth coming. And this was just a hurricane not a real live SHTF advent. And now six weeks later many of these people are lived just as they did 6 days after. How many of these people wished they had stored more? And the fact is most real major disasters are not 5-7 day events they are weeks and sometimes a couple of months. And a week or two preps is not going to get you though. Yet somehow some people just allow normalcy bias shape their view and not actual facts of what real life shtf is like. It’s not a weekend camping trip it is often a week’s long gulling and frustrating time in which most of the time you are doing without and what you have and what you can get is never as much as you need.

The "OMG I am so f***** going to DIE, I am DOOMED no way I will live TEN MINUTES" kind of people.

What help have you offered what help have you done?

As far as a few weeks? There a story posted today about the condidtions that many of Sandy’ victims are still living under 5 months later.

And I don’t honestly believe I have protested enough you are of a dangerous mind set. I pity those your will try and turn your wrath on.

Funny you should mention "dodging armageddon"...

This is PRECISELY why many on the LEFT despise preppers. I've talked to may about the coming collapse, and they say in almost rapturous tones - "then we'll all be in the same boat". They think that equally shared misery (though that won't happen, the "rich" and the powerful will NOT suffer) is superior to a world where someone enjoys the fruits of their own labor.

They are just as angry, if not more so, that you're trying to avoid their "religion's" eschatalogy, as the "God" crowd.

You know that is one of the things I believe deeply in God does have tremendous sense of humor. The lessons I have learn the best when I was corrected are those I was able to later laught at.

Why don’t you do what I do with threads that I find uninteresting, useless, or distasteful?

I ignore them.

What I do wish is for FR to be free of the vindictive, paranoid, corny, persecution-complex-filled articles that preppers too often post around here. The contempt for those who don’t buy into the SHTF predictions and the prepper lifestyle is palpable — and I don’t like it. I don’t like having to share space with that here on FR.

Ever thought about just staying off these threads that you find so offensive? That's seems like the solution.
