What Makes a Good Bug-Out Location?
The Shooters Log ^ | 3/23/13 | CTD Blogger

I’m going to tell you a true story, but to protect my friend’s privacy and OPSEC—as all good preppers should do—I’m going to remain as anonymous as possible. I’m telling you because I believe in helping people and I like to imagine a world after SHTF where we help each other rather than hinder each other, so here it goes… I recently had the opportunity to visit a friend’s bug-out property. What started out as a dream for land outside of the city for a nice get-away to keep animals and a shooting range turned into the perfect place to start a bug-out plan in motion.

Where we disagree is that this therefore justifies "prepping", as in keeping a years worth of dried beans around. Why? Because the chances of SHTF are exceedingly small -- not worth worrying about as JIM ROBINSON HIMSELF HAS ACKNOWLEDGED (hee hee) --

I wouldn't overwork that too much if I were you.

These days are the only time in recorded history where it wasn’t common for people to store significant amounts of food and supplies for lean times.

That wouldn’t be because the SHTF of your fantasies — total societal collapse —

So now we "fantasize" about "societal collapse". As though we want it. You need to take a vacay.

If we're starting tribes, what's better to show up with, guns or your set of cast iron cookware?

Both ;)

Yo Yardstick!

Thanks for the reminder! Ignorant people are everywhere, but the ones who take unreasonable offense (like you) are also dangerous.

People like you are why I don’t advertise my preps. And, people like you are also why I am ready, willing and able to defend them.

So... Again... Thanks for the reminder!

What Makes a Good Bug-Out Location? For me and the vast majority of Americans, it's home.

Without outdoor survival skills, and with limited supplies, IMHO the best thing to do is wait out the storm. Keep at least a modest supply of food, water, and arms. Lay low, stay quiet.

In most disaster situations, things reach a semblance of normalcy after a few days. To me, it's not worth the risk of leaving known shelter/supplies for the unknown of what lies on the road out of town. If you take anything with you, more likely than not you will encounter folks who will not hesitate to kill you to take what you have.

Just MHO.

I don't like loud noises (other than those required) in the kitchen, so a shotgun is possible but unlikely. A cake might fall.

I am, however, very, very handy with very sharp knives.

If you’re going to bug out/evacuate you have to bug out really early.

Agree with Jane.

Anyone can hypothesize a situation in which ANY home or sanctuary can be breached, damaged or destroyed.

There is simply no such thing as a failsafe safe house. Nor is there any (even) small group of people who can be considered completely trustworthy.

We all make our efforts and maybe they will save us in the end. Maybe they won’t.

But I, like you Marcella, will live or die knowing I have taken the steps possible for me to take.

“Because the chances of SHTF are exceedingly small — not worth worrying about as JIM ROBINSON HIMSELF HAS ACKNOWLEDGED”

You are really dumb - why do you think Jim's not worried about it? Why am I and Kartographer and JRandomFreeper and yorkiemom and all those preppers on this thread are not worried about it? BECAUSE WE ARE PREPARED. You are the one who isn't prepared and thrashing around in your mud pit, throwing out mud.

The song here in post #167 will make you forget all about the naysayers. Man laz can dance, especially at 1:09.

So you’re telling me Jim Robinson is a prepper? To what extent, and how would you know?

Correct. Jim didn't say that it was "not worth worrying about". Jim said that he "wasn't worried".

There's a big difference between those two statements, imho.

A) OPSEC.

B) You ask too many questions of him, and have no right to know.

C) What your first reflexive-answers, reflexive-assumptions, and reflexive-implications are, are quite probably wrong -- from intent of my, his, and everyone's answers -- all the way down to implementation.
