Heinrich Brüning, chancellor of Austria 1930-1932 had the following to say about Hitler and the region he came from:

"Hitler was born at Braunau. Braunau is in that part of Upper Austria which went Protestant at the Reformation. After that it was forcibly Catholicised by the forces of the Counter-Reformation, the Hapsburgs and the Jesuits. Since then there has been no religion in that part of the world."

Heinrich Brüning was chancellor of Germany, not Austria.

Fascinating. That really does explain a lot.

Areas in NY state, and other parts of the rust-belt were consistently prowled by Rev. Charles Finey and other 19th C. equivelents to today's tele-evangelists.

Today they are known as the "burnt out" areas--where few religious people remain...
