O’Reilly-Colmes Family Spat Shows Why There’s Fox News…And There’s Everyone Else
Mediaite ^ | March 7, 2013 | Joe Concha

George W. Bush wins the 2000 Presidential Election by (in essence) 537 votes; Fox News goes to #1 in the cable news race a few months later.

Bush narrowly beats John Kerry in 2004. Not surprisingly, Fox is still #1, and by a wider margin.

Barack Obama soundly defeats John McCain in 2008; Fox is still #1 by a Secretariat-esque margin.

Mr. Obama decisively beats Mitt Romney four months ago; Regardless of which party holds executive power, Fox is still decimating the competition, albeit by a slightly smaller-than-usual margin. Sure, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow and Lawrence O’Donnell are periodically beating Sean Hannity and Greta Van Susteren in the demo, but for 22 other hours out of the day, it’s not even a fair fight.

So why does this keep happening?

Why, for the better part of 12 years, can’t anyone seriously challenge Fox News?

The country IS becoming more socially progressive, whether it be gay rights, legal pot or its attitude toward illegal immigrants.

So why isn’t the country—of which 51.1 percent of its registered voters went for Mr. Obama last fall—moving away from a network that many of its critics call an extension of the Republican Party?

The answer played itself out again this week starting on Tuesday’s night O’Reilly Factor: Bill O’Reilly is speaking with his usual Tuesday night guests in the form of Monica Crowley (conservative) and Alan Colmes (liberal). This is a segment that has existed for years. Colmes is married to Crowley’s sister, bringing a Carville-Matalin element (sort of) to the show. The topic is sequester, who’s to blame, and particularly if the President has any inclination to ever cut anything given his record over his first 50 months in office....

O’Reilly has a very good show. No wonder he has the highest ratings going on 11 years or so.

You’re probably thinking of his twin, Henry Waxman.

She’s won the 18-35 demographic a good amount this year. However, Hannity has more viewers overall.

Nope. Believe it or not, when I lived over on the west coast of Florida, I was walking through the Don CeSar Hotel in St. Pete Beach. Colmes was walking through with a blonde - which I think Crowley at the time said they had just or were getting married. I took a picture with him - instead of "Cheese" I said "Hannity". Believe me, he's (how can I put this without insulting his mother) just as ugly in person - kind of like a walking skeleton.

O’Reilly has a very good show

FRiend, I have to disagree. O'Reilly is a populist and does not have conservative principles. He has some conservative principles; and so do most Americans. But if you evaluate him in totality, he is lacking. I frequently disagree with him.

He is nothing more than a NY Republican, and that isn't saying much.

All true. And he has a very good show.

I agree with you! O’Reilly is a bit of a blowhard most of the time even when he has a good point. Too bad he seems to see right wing of the party as just as malicious as the left wing of the Democrats. Sometimes I just want to scream at him that it is NOT the same but he continues to play the equality card as if both sides are the same...I get so aggravated at him a times. He will never see the actual truth as long as he continues to see this as a both sides of the issue (instead of right and wrong)... Democrats will win every time..without ever being RIGHT!

Thanks for this thread.

___________

From the article: “ - - - 51.1 percent of its registered voters went for Mr. Obama last fall - - - “

WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Millions of Registered voters did one of the following:

1.) Did not vote.

2.) Did not vote for any of the Presidential Candidates, but voted for other candidates for other positions.

3.) Turned in an empty, unmarked ballot.

The latter two are ABSTAIN votes, which are never counted in USA public elections, but are counted in the US Congress and the United Nations.

Thus, Obama may have received 51.1 % of the votes cast, but many Registered Voters were not included in the vote tally.

The article author chose to speculate on this false data, and thus the speculations are just that: speculations.

I never said O’Reilly was conservative. I said he has a very good show. I like the format because it is entertaining. I do not tune in there for anything other than entertainment for an hour. He has the highest rating 11 years running for a reason.

When I tune in to Hannity, I expect a conservative agenda being pushed and usually he does not disappoint. Many times Hannity annoys me when he keep showing in FULL, video’s of democrats spewing left-wing talking points. He also talks too much. He should stop interrupting a guest who is making a good point. He is definitely not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

Approximately 169 million registered voters - 86 million democrat - 55 million republican - 28 million others registered.

65,367,939 popular votes (idiot votes) to the POS in the White house in 2012 give or take.

O’Reilly’s show is just the same revolving cast of talking heads yelling at each other over essentially the same issues night after night after night. Just like all the other screaming head infotainment shows. I got bored and haven’t watched any of them for years now.
