Watching Movies On-Line? (vanity)

It seems like "everybody" is watching movies on-line for free, but YouTube does not have a very large selection even if you are willing to be watching part 1, part 2... To be specific, I would like to watch "The Shoes of the Fisherman" because all copies of the book are checked out at the local library. Does anybody have any suggestions? Are those sites where you register to watch movies safe? Thanks

Amazon Prime works well for us. Our obsession is British mysteries like Midsomer Murders and Poirot. Roku gives us good quality. We just upgraded to 40 Mbps which makes a lot of difference.

I heard about House of Cards with Kevin Spacey that can only be seen with a Netflix account so I finally got my Blu-Ray player linked to my wi-fi and got an account with Netflix for $8/month. WOW - I have done the binge watching of the first 13 episodes. Just stunning!

There are tons of other things I can watch now as well. I just might disconnect my cable TV and just keep the wi-fi. So sick of Comcast anyway..

Hulu and Crackle are safe. I think YouTube also has at least some free movies. I’d be careful about anything else.

Netflix isn’t free; but it isn’t very expensive. Lot’s of good stuff there.

We ditched Hulu when they started to show an ad for "Plan B" when my daughter and I were watching an episode of Mary Tyler Moore. The ads for their crappy original content are awful enough, and shown during "Dick van Dyke" and "Dragnet", clicking that we don't like the ads made them put it in our face MORE. "Plan B" was WAY over the line. Adios, Hulu.

You can rent Shoes of the Fisherman for $2.99 from Amazon if you don't want to pay for a whole year.

Frankly, I found the payoff at the end of the 3 1/2 hour movie to be a bit of a let down. I much prefer "The Scarlet and the Black" for Vatican movies, though there's no conclave in that one.

I also don’t like many movies and TV shows any more. Nothing but a bunch of crap out there.

I do watch Korean TV shows at viki.com though, within days of airing in Korea they are often subtitled.

I pay the streaming cost(7 or 8 per month) at netflix because it’s ad free. hulu seems to be more TV shows which I am not as interested in. but I may do the hulu+ 1 week free trial so I can watch season 2 of downton abbey.
amazon prime has a number of movies for free or fairly cheap.

I live on a sailboat, and I boycott liberal media, so for me YouTube is absolutely IT for all my media entertainment. I may not be able to find specific movies on demand, but there are certainly more movies there than I could ever watch if I lived for a thousand years...!

And because I can’t always find what I want, I often go further afield and watch some genres I wasn’t exposed to very much before. I’ve become a big fan of BBC classics, old movies and the History channel...and, I confess I love old Kung Fu movies, and when I’m in the mood for that YouTube has tons of them. As well as music, music videos, audiobooks, etc.

I might expand my options in the future, but for now I’m pretty satisfied...plus, I’m a cheapskate! Love anything that dunt cost nuttin ;^)

I have used Netflix, and it’s safe as far as that goes...but the selection isn’t very good. They want to upgrade you to the DVD delivery service for the best selections. Which is OK up to a point...I used Magic DVD ripper to rip them to a network hard drive, so I had them on hand after returning the disk.

After watching some kids respond as intended to a Pop Tarts commercial while watching Spongebob, I won’t let my kids watch TV per se. Watch choice content on demand ad free for cheap, yes; uncontrolled content designed to sell eyeballs, no.

and if commercials make them want Pop-Tarts, you know that sexual content, subtle or not, in TV shows will also make an impression on them!

I use Vudu.com for newer releases or things that aren’t on Amazon or Netflix. They’re not free, but usually range from $1-$5. Just watched Argo and Beasts of the Southern Wild for $4.99 each.

There’s no membership fee for Vudu. You just pay as you go.
