Click this link to take you to a page which allows you to tell the entire membership of both the New Mexico Senate Public Affairs Committee and the Senate Judiciary Committee (16 senators) to oppose House Bill 77 with one mouse click.
House Bill 77 has been revised since it was first introduced, and initially failed to move forward, but it has now passed in the New Mexico House and been referred to the Senate Public Affairs And Senate Judiciary Committees.
According to the NRA, HB 77 "is the first step toward the criminalization of all private firearm transfers..." and "mandates that organizers or promoters of gun shows in New Mexico provide the services of a federally licensed firearms dealer (FFL) to process background checks for private firearm transfers, and requires all transfers at these events go through an FFL unless transferred to a New Mexico concealed handgun licensee. This measure also provides immunity from liability to the transferor and the FFL for complying with this requirement, requires mental health records that disqualify someone from being able to purchase or possess firearms to be reported to the FBI for inclusion in the National Instant Check System, and establishes for restoration of rights if the disqualifying condition is removed."
Your message will be sent to the following New Mexico Senators -- (OPTIONAL: it would help if you also called each member to follow up). Senate Public Affairs Committee Senate Judiciary Committee
Salutations and your contact information will be automatically added to the letter/emails for you, based on the contact information you provide.
Unfortunately, Republican Governor Martinez has already said she would sign this bill if it makes it through the legislature. The only good thing (if there is anything good about this gun-grabbers dream bill), is that there are only two weeks left in the legislative session this year and the senate committees are still hearing senate bills.
I'll put up info on the committee make up in a bit and give info on which senators you should approach with your arguments. Remember, be polite and its more important for New Mexico members to write the Senators.

Comment: Probably not much hope here; 5 of 8 are Democrats and from the ABQ area. They might be able to either modify it or table it either of which would effectively kill it.

Probably more luck here - The chair is from economically depressed Northern New Mexico and constituents up there don't like government intrusion (except for gov't assistance). The schedule for hearing bills is up to him and delay is fatal. If one or more members puts up a good argument, it may be tabled, or if passed with amendments, it has to go back to the NM House for concurrance.
I love NM because it is part of who I am, so I sent the email.
I hope the emails have the desired result!
