First lady Michelle Obama, surrounded by servicemen and women, made a surprise appearance at Sunday night's Oscar ceremony when she appeared via live video from Washington to present the award for Best Picture. Jack Nicholson was present on stage to hand off the award to Ben Affleck for Argo.
Obama praised the nominees for the night's highest honor, saying the films nominated for the Best Picture Oscar could teach lessons that "apply to all of us no matter who we are, what we look like, where we come from and who we love." She said she was excited to pay tribute to movies that "lift our spirits, broaden our minds and transport us to places we can never imagine."
Obama then announced Argo as the Oscar winner for Best Picture, a film about the Iran hostage crisis that celebrated a collaboration of the movie industry and Washington.
Some thought the surprise appearance was another inappropriate mix of Hollywood and politics, with President Barack Obama often being accused of using the industry to campaign. Jennifer Rubin of the Washington Post called the first lady's appearance "downright weird:"
"It is not enough that President Obama pops up at every sporting event in the nation. Now the first lady feels entitled, with military personnel as props, to intrude on other forms of entertaining (this time for the benefit of the Hollywood glitterati who so lavishly paid for her husband's election). I'm sure the left will holler that once again conservatives are being grouchy and have it in for the Obamas. Seriously, if they really had their president's interests at heart, they'd steer away from encouraging these celebrity appearances. It makes both the president and the first lady seem small and grasping...."

In that dress she looks like the Chysler Building.Ruh-roh! That was funny... :)
Seriously?
The Oscars were on tv last night?
Well, I wouldn’t have watched it anyway.
Maybe that's because they are "small and grasping"...

By way of arcane reference, I ask you to recall Walker Percy's novel "Thanatos Syndrome" in which a chemical known as heavy sodium was introduced into the water supply.
His wife (like many women) "presented" in a most unique manner.
So does Michelle in her million woman (well, one woman, a million times) photo op march to celebrity.
She shows her derriere at every opportunity.
Even Hollywood "groans" when she appears on stage.
And what a derriere it is!
The Romania story had a happy ending.
“well, she sure wears the pants in that family...”
Your pic and quote get the post of the week in my book! LOL!
I’ve been thinking about Moochelle’s appearance last night, and what’s going on with the “sequester”, and all the surrounding stuff today. It just seems to me that the Obamas and this country “jumped the shark” last night. Does anyone else have that impression?
Now THAT's funny!
THAT's funny, too!
These are the reasons why she should have been the host of the Oscars, not just show up for one. She matches the the intellect of Hollywood. They are pair made in heaven.
I don't know about your, but I recorded her appearance and I will watch it everyday.
HELL NO!
At the very least a warning should have been given for those of us who refuse to look at certain images. It happened so suddenly the shock prevented me from changing channels. Not expecting the "Moving on up" First Sasquatch to intrude into a commercial service.
It caused me extreme mental and emotional stress.
So, the answer is no, pure and simple.
First Oscars I have watched in years, and the trauma may have been permanent.
...unspoken reason the military is behind her is that a message that has been used by dictators throughout history....

Absolutely true. Good catch.
January of 2017 cannot come too soon.

I am not looking forward to that time, as I am pretty sure that that is when Michelle Wookievita will have her coronation.
Bug out before they put up a wall.

Supporting racists and perverts worldwide...
Not on my behalf, however.
Why did politics get introduced as a surprise? Would the worldwide audience have been as large had it been announced ahead of time? I seriously, seriously doubt it. I believe the total audience would have significantly (and justifiably) reduced. At least 50 million in the US alone.
Speaking for myself, I NEVER watch this circle jerk. I did this time curious about the reception of the Les Miz movie. The sudden appearance of the "moving on up" sasquatch was an unexpected intrusion totally lacking in taste.
I hope the sponsors remember to disclose the political contribution to the everlasting campaign of the Great Uniter.
Behold the seamless propaganda machine.
