The great zot thread of 2008 was wild. God only know has many FReepers got the zot in just that one thread for comments supporting Giuliani.
But the “Newt or else” era was worse. Much worse. For several weeks in early 2012 one didn’t dare post a negative comment regarding Newt over hundreds of threads or the would be zotted.
And these were not trolls either. Sign up dates of 98 or 99? Didn’t matter. Zot.
I - like many who are still here - simply held our tongues during those days and stayed away from the lightning.
Turns out we were right about Newt after all, but at that time.... We shut up.

Personally I don't remember hundreds of threads. My recollection (thought I could be wrong) is it was over a fairly short time period but quite a few were zotted.
Yes, even a lot of older Freepers lost their Freeper lives at that time.
Santorum supporter, Romney suppoter, or just not liking Newt...all were hit.
