his State of the Union address, President Obama doubled down on his gun-control proposals, again demanding that Congress ban so-called assault weapons and high capacity magazines. This is not a surprise. What has been a surprise are the increasingly open calls for defiance from gun owners, state legislatures, and local law enforcement. If the presidents proposals become law, he may move the country into turbulent waters we havent seen in many years.
Gun control has long been a controversial issue in American politics. However, there are three aspects to this issue that make this more volatile than other hot topics such as taxes, foreign policy, or abortion:
1) The strongest advocates of each side hold fundamentally irreconcilable positions.
On one hand, committed gun-control advocates say: No one should be allowed to own certain weapons. On the other hand, equally committed gun-rights advocates say: No way in hell are we giving up these weapons.
2) Ordinary Americans have declared their willingness to disobey the law.
New York state has already passed laws similar to Obamas proposals. Gun owners there are now organizing a campaign of open civil disobedience, daring state officials to come and take their rifles. State officials already acknowledge that they will be unable to enforce the new law.
3) Local law enforcement officials and state governments have also vowed civil disobedience.
Over 280 sheriffs and eight state sheriffs associations have vowed to protect citizens Second Amendment rights against new gun laws.
The Utah Sheriffs Association used unusually strong language:
We, like you, swore a solemn oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, and we are prepared to trade our lives for the preservation of its traditional interpretation.
Similarly, several state legislatures are considering laws to stop federal officials from enforcing new gun laws

I know folks behind enemy lines in NY. They have no plans on complying. The form of their disobedience is kinda up to the State at this point.
I’m in Mn. They pass this crap here... My “disobedience” may be a bit more active than they’d like.
Well said.
Well said. The roast is done - actually pretty crispy. The only question now is how many people will refuse to eat it???
People like Sol Veritas, (not necessarily Sol per se), are the ones cokmprising that 1 out of 3 group that defy rational explanation of their beliefs and activities.
I'm old. When I look back over my life, the things I regret most are those times when I failed to do what was right.
If I should happen to live another 20 years I could not live with the knowledge that when the time came to fight I did nothing, and in consequence my children and grandchildren lost their rights.
It isn’t the cops we’ll be fighting. It’s those giving the illegal orders.
Cogitate on that for a while before you spout one more bit of cowardly idiocy...
Whew we ... another cart before the horse moment there liberal.
We seem to have a big problem with our Alabama state legislators!

We have a weapon more powerful than any in the whole arsenal of the British Empire! That weapon is our refusal! - Michael Collins
Non-violent civil disobedience is the answer ... liberal elites don't have enough jails to house the half of American citizens who own guns - OR believe in the Constitution OR both... And if they think they do, let them try...
There are about 10 million big game hunters in the United States. By nature of what they hunt they are using rifles that are perfectly suited for sniping. If only 10% of those will stand up for The Constitution you have a sniping force of 1 million. I sure as hell would not want to go up against that!
In addition there are millions of ex military that have these same skills and probably the weapons. The only way they can take away are guaranteed rights under The Constitution is if we let them.
From observing from this location, I’d say there are invitations to become a crispy critter(s) on board. I do not say this lightly. Am knowing you see it too.
If the federal government breaks the Constitution to a sufficient extent that people who love liberty are obligated to do what next exactly? Please walk me through the trajectory of events.
Let me interject, and correct me if I am wrong, that very quickly we come to a fork in the big road. We either comply or we resist. There is a third option: we redefine the federal government. Of the three options, compliance leads us to tyranny and that was the road that leads to democide. Resistance leads to direct confrontation with government and becomes a contest of power, and this ignores that a struggle with government is mainly a political struggle. Armed confrontation with government cannot end well until the political issues are resolved. Both of the conventional options lead to bloodshed.
The only peaceful option is to redefine the federal government. That is a conversation we are obligated to have. But notice how many people on FR even mention a Constitutional Convention. I haven’t seen any other postings besides my own recently. And yet logic demands that we discuss it!
I cannot understand why people who are so quick to confront government and assume the risks that are tangible in such an engagement, think a Convention entails more risk! Look at how many states have opted out of ObamaCare. Look at how many states have Republican governors and legislatures.
Even a Republic governor will be obligated to put down an armed rebellion against his own State Police. There can only be one sovereign and his oath of office obligates him to enforce the law.
But a convention allows changing the law that he must enforce.
But more to your reply: if the present government breaks the chains of the Constitution, how can we repair it so that government is properly restrained? And if a Convention is held, the votes will be by state, and a supermajority of the state legislatures will have to ratify the working draft.
And some States may take that opportunity to leave the Union. Alaska is one, maybe Hawaii and California. In the case of Kali, it is welcome to have its own secular Utopia.
In my opinion, RKBA is just one of the tyrannies of the present federal government. At the moment the main tyranny is that it has put my entire country in debt-serfdom. It taxes my income no matter where I make it. It inflates the money it forces me to use. It publishes more regulations (each having the weight of law) each week than a man can read in a year. It has become tyrannous and arbitrary in how it enforces its laws. It gives a man whose company has stolen over a billion dollars a pass, but it has thrown a person in jail for the horrible crime of importing lobsters using styrofoam instead of cardboard boxes. It is using “environmental” laws to force me to use dangerous light bulbs and impose the type of toilet I can have. In the future, I will be forced to buy a car that is dangerous to drive because it weighs so little due to mileage requirements. And so on.
The molon labe crowd has too narrow a vision of tyranny. The present assault on RKBA is just one front on a far bigger tyranny. We will lose that war if we don’t wake up.
I didn’t say this would help him...I agree with what you said...It would create an even more overwhelming response from the people....
What do you think the attitude will be of the rank and file who actually knock on doors to collect guns?
Do you think it will change once they have to go out realizing that others that have gone have been attacked directly, or their homes were burned to the ground while they were out?
I think they will blink, probably not first, but they will blink. The confiscators are outnumbered, and they will not want to be conducting raids while living in a shelter, with all their worldly possessions burned to a crisp.
Do you really trust those who hold power to run a CC that will be lead to liberty and justice for the people? Dangerous .... leave our Constitution alone. If those in power want to repeal our rights let it be out in the open and not behind a ruse of a CC. I do not doubt for one moment those who hold power would attempt to pass off a removal of more rights via a CC would come out and tell us it is what the people want, when their words would be LIES.
I am not A kid. I am 72 and have seen big changes in our country in those 72 years. Very few of these changes have been for the betterment of our nation. I have a tendency to analyze before acting but we are at the point where disobedience by the populace to unconstitutional laws may force action by right thinking people. They are forcing us to act. We will either sink or swim in these next few years. I like most here pray that action never comes but would not turn away if it happens.
Pray for our nation.
America is totally out of control. We have been taken over by a Federal government that is communist and is going deeper into control of us than any time in our history. I really feel that we will never recover and will become a dictatorship because ignorant Americans want it that way.
We refuse to allow elite liberals to run roughshod over the Constitution. We call them at their game.
Liberal elites aren't any different than elites in other parts of the world who run hellholes for their people. Ever wonder why our elite liberals don't go to one of the other countries in the world already being run by elites?
Easy.
It's BECAUSE OUR LIBERAL ELITES WANT TO BE THE ELITES IN CHARGE.
Citizens in other countries who want to be free don't want the right to vote. They don't escape their hellholes to come here so they can vote for the liberal elite or the not-so-much Conservative one. That's the bullshit our elites want to fool US into thinking is freedom.
IT'S NOT voting. It's NOT purple fingers.
It's the freedom that protects our rights as citizens that matters. OUR freedom is based on the Constitution and the BILL OF RIGHTS. That's what we are willing to die to defend. Willingly.
But would I be willing to die to defend a bunch of elites? I wouldn't be willing to get a bad cold to defend them - I wouldn't be willing to cross a street to defend them. I wouldn't spend a nickel to defend a bunch of puffed up liberal elites - OR ANY elites for that matter.
From the article: “Passing the law would accelerate the already growing polarization of America.”
That is exactly what the community orcanizer in the whitehut wants!
