Why should the lives of law enforcement agents be risked to apprehend this suspected domestic terrorist?
A major manhunt has been underway in the Los Angeles area for Chris Dorner, the former LAPD officer, Navy reservist, and trained marksman who is the prime suspect in the murder of three people, including the daughter of an LAPD captain (who previously represented him in a disciplinary proceeding) and her fiance. A lengthy Facebook message attributed to Dorner vows that he will continue to kill not only members of the LAPD but also their children and spouses until he receives a public apology for what he believes was his unfair firing:
"This will be a war of attrition . . . . I will utilize OSINT to discover your residences, spouses workplaces, and children's schools. IMINT to coordinate and plan attacks on your fixed locations. . . . HUMINT will be utilized to collect personal schedules of targets. I never had the opportunity to have a family of my own, I'm terminating yours. . . . I know your significant others routine, your children's best friends and recess. I know Your Sancha's gym hours and routine. I assure you that the casualty rate will be high."
Surveillance drones are now being used to try to locate him. LAPD are so apprehensive that they have already mistakenly shot at innocent people when they saw vehicles resembling the one they thought belonged to Dorner. Authorities suspect he's hiding in "the icy wilderness" of Big Bear east of Los Angeles which, reported AP, is "filled with thick forests and jagged peaks, that creates peril as much for Dorner as the officers hunting him."
Here's my question: if the surveillance drones detect his location, should the lives of law enforcement agents be risked, along with other civilians...

Now is this a great Idea or what? The damn police have already seriously injured drivers and others in vehicles that had nothing to do with dorner .I can only imagine how many people would be killed in a drone strike.
These people had better wake up before more innocent civilians are murdered by law enforcement agencies.
I think the article is missing the obvious, the nation needs super boy to zoom out of the white house and bring him down just like he did with OBL.
“It probably already is with no results to date that we know of.”
What if his truck was already hit by a drone and this “manhunt” is just a coverup for us and lower level cops?
No.
I had dream as a child of being attacked from above like this.
Maybe it was a vision of my end.
Our info is on Jim Robinson’s servers.
We are all potential targets.
Its very foolish to believe we are not or never will be.
The UK. Shades of what they were in the 1940’s I guess.
From what I’ve been able to gather, the average joe is pretty safe from Dorner, it’s the LAPD that’s worried.
As such, the only terrorists about town are trigger-happy LAPD officers shooting any blue truck that moves, regardless of the make/model.
Now you want to allow the LAPD to use DRONES? How many casualties have the LAPD rung up so far chasing this guy down? Now you want to try that with hellfire missiles?
Oh, and then there’s the matter of the birdcage liner we use to underpin the entire US system of government called the Constitution. “We just have to suspend the 1st, 4th, 5th Amendments for the kids, you see. This bad, BLACK man, who one time returned a bag of money to a Korean church, is lurking your neighborhood stalking innocent children.”
I think the LAPD should go French and call a truce with this guy and discuss terms. Now that’s something you can DEFINITELY do for the safety of innocent children, or innocent newspaper delivery people at least.
Hell no. The LAPD will kill the wrong person or persons and blow up their vehicle or home.
Let the LAPD take their chances with the b@st@rd. After all, we “civilians” certainly have to.
I’ll have to remember to quote you. Hat tip for TX.
What a stupidass question..........Let's create additional controversy since there's no other news to report on Dorner.
Now that’s outside the box, v. Good comment.
It use to be a stupid question.
Hellfires should be viewed strictly as a weapon of war, not to be used against common criminals for the same reason posse comitatus forbids using military personnel to enforce state law, even if some deluded common criminal declares that he is at war. In fact, it is not a war but a matter for law enforcement.
Otherwise, what might they do when a small group of taxpayers seize a port and dump tea in the harbor and police decide that the malcontents are so well dispersed in and around the facility that Hellfires won't work? Nuke the place?
I wonder. If I was Charles Dorner and the government announced that they had killed me in a drone strike I think I’d run with the opportunity and disappear.
“If the government uses a drone to kill Dorner then whats next? Drone strikes on the next Waco compound? Drone strikes on the Hutaree or anyone else flying a Gadsden flag?”
The kind of “mission creep” that led to drone “signature strikes” on unidentified persons merely exhibiting suspicious patterns of behavior could lead one to anticipate promiscuous use of killer drones.
The drivers of trucks merely resembling the perp’s that were shot up with little warning makes one grimace thinking about how many “collateral casualties” there might have been in the search for this guy so far if killer drones had been available.
I would expect that there is already a secret POTUS directive authorizing killer drones to be used in defense of VIPS including POTUS on US soil and that such drones are likely to be frequently flying cap over POTUS, possibly augmented by ARGUS.
Absolutely insane.
It's one thing to use it in a war zone. A completely different thing in a domestic police action.
We've already seen an extreme case of police incompetence here. What's next? Use a machine to remotely slaughter innocents who have been erroneously identified as suspects? Don't blame me, it was the drone?!?
Who put such idiots in charge of the courts and juries in matters of the law, life and death? They are as bad as dorner, IMHO.
They did NOT have positive ID on the innocents who they attempted to blow away in the past few days. So now they want to utilize a vehicle of war to do their dirty work?
Deploy the drones to monitor the officers in pursuit and video tape their actions to ensure they are executing the law, not innocent civilians.
DEAL! Especially because it seems we never see these politicians go on trial...
He’s a threat to those in government so to hell with the judicial process, kill him with drones and missiles...
Now those Bozos want to use drones...
Please don't shoot T-shirts selling like hot cakes.
