Belmont Abbey College has recently reduced its tuition cost by $10,000 per year. It’s gone from “stratospheric” to “a whole heck of a lot,” plus room and board ;-).

That said, it offers quite a good liberal arts education in a solidly Catholic environment.

Having attended a Catholic College, I 100% agree with your calling them out on this. They are no more in keeping with Catholic principles than is the Muslim Brotherhood! I admire they graduate a high rate of their football players but aside from that, there is nothing to admire from there from my perspective.

I used to be a fan of Notre Dame. That ceased long before they proved they are no longer a Catholic instutution. About a dozen years ago my son was offered a full ride at several higer education institutions.

We went to sales seminars put on by four of them. Notre Dame was one. I didn't offer the slightest opinion on any of them, but inquired as to his feelings after each one.

After the Notre Dame debacle, I asked what he thought. He said, and I quote, "Those people sound a bit arrogant." If there was ever an understatement, that was it.

The people putting on the seminar must have had training as managers for World Wrestling Federation participants.

My son chose Marquette. Later, my daughter attended Creighton. If these were anti-Catholic institutions, they hid it well, despite being run by Jesuits. I never left a meeting with any of the priests at either school feeling like I needed a shower. One of the priests at Marquette was even a member of the NRA.

I have talked theology with all of my kids from time to time. Neither of these "Catholic" educated youngsters ever parroted some heresy to me or any known violation of a Catholic canon.

These days my son is a much stronger Catholic than I am.

Maybe neither university is the same these days. Maybe all the big boys belong to the same club as Notre Dame. However, if Notre Dame in the advertisement, I sure don't think I would ever encourage a youngster to attend anything resembling a Holy Cross seminary.

Notre Dame can win or lose football games from now 'til Hades freezes over. I'll never waste two seconds watching any of them.

I’m a northern Yankee boy with Irish ancestors who went to Catholic high school.

I’ll be rooting for Alabama.
