I haven't seen any such survey, but I'll accept what you say at face value.
Having said that, I would guess that any survey of the military on virtually any subject since the founding of our republic would have had similar results. Younger soldiers sit at the bottom of the rank structure and tend to put their trust in their leadership to do the right thing, point them in the right direction, and have good reasons behind their orders.

I remember seeing it in GUN WEEK years ago. It was in a questionaire given by the US Army to soldiers. Most soldiers would not confiscate, but there were a few who would.
