Thinking about it, things like fighter jets and bombers are owned by private citizens. They are just priced outside the hands of most. Surplus aircraft, tanks, and such are available on the open market with the only restriction being price.
Thats probably true. I never looked into actually buying one. I generally assumed that the U.S. government owned the technology on much of the equipment, so no one get get that stuff.
