Despite its own insistence that it is very much alive, the Republican Party has now joined the crowd invisible. The sad pathetic truth of its demise is that those who once believed in it, and cared deeply for it, are no longer around to bury it with dignity. Its corpse has now become the dancing play thing of Washington D.C. consulting firms and lobbyist.
The most ironic fact of the Republican Partys death is that it was not a showdown at high noon on Capitol Hill that killed it. Nor a rare exotic virus that provided the mortal blow. It was killed by something very common in society and usually not fatal in Washington D.C... It was done in by a severe allergic reaction to the truth.
There has always been one thing Conservatives, Libertarians, Tea Partyers, Constitutionalists, and Social Conservative could always agree on. We all agreed in one basic primary principle. The principle of less government and even less spending. That very basic principle was the glue that held all these factions together under the Republican Party tent. Recent events paired with a close look at the Republican Partys actions over the course of fifteen years have now exposed that the Republican Party has been living a lie. They are not for less spending and smaller government. The foot of the Republican Party has always been just as heavy on the pedal to hurtle our great country off the financial cliff shooting out into space as the Democrat Party. The only difference is that elected Republicans have been pretending to be innocent kidnap victims of President Obama and Democrats, being forced into going along for the ride.
The current Republican Party Establishment is not the victim of the main stream media clouding their message of the benefits of spending cuts. On other issues that is surely the case, but not this one. The reason the Republican Party fails to articulate the primary virtue of less spending and small government effectively is because it does not believe in the words that are coming out of its mouth. It is a lie they are forced to say out of political necessity, not because of some deeply held belief.
The Republican Partys primary concern for a while now has been to deliver tax payer money for lobbyists and consulting firms who represent the industries that fill the campaign war chest. Erick Erickson at RedState delved a little into the incest problem here. These consulting firms are the middle men. The paper bag carriers. The mules. The blood sucking mosquitos. They are the ones who make the promise and make sure the Republican candidate delivers. They are in fact the buffer between corporate Washington D.C. Insiders money and the Republican politicians conscious that allows them to sleep at night thinking they are as clean and pure as a bowl full of freshly poured Clorox.

Thank you, Laz.
Did you read the article? This isn't just pointing at the other guy and saying, "It's your fault." This article and the article referenced above from Erickson at Redstate both demonstrate a level of corruption from the RINO consultants that is treasonous. It's the very definition of Lenin's quote, "The Capitalists will sell us the rope with which we will hang them."
At some point the two major factions in the Republican Party will accept the reality that neither can win without the other and they will unite against the common opponent.
The common enemy of both parties is constitutional conservatives.

“I think it was the Whig party that became the Republican party.”
No. The Republican party is not an extension of the Whig party.
The Republican party was formed by a coalition of Democrats and Whigs. And, despite what other may say, the primary driver was opposition to slavery.
The Democrats were pro-slavery. The Whigs a “we don’t like it, but there’s nothing we can do about it, so we’re not going to try” attitude.
The Republican Party was formed to “abolish slavery and restrict the role of government in economic and social life.” That quoted line was the agreed upon purpose of the founders of the Republican party.
The Republican party was a 3rd party. Eventually the Whig party disappeared, because people left it for either the Democrat or Republican party.
It has long been my contention that the GOP establishment would rather lose with a moderate than win with a conservative. I haven't seen anything to change my mind.
The Republicans spent 40 years out of power. Somewhere along the line a mindset set in that "we can work with this." They learned to work the system, while being out of power. Being in control became less important that having access to power.
I read Newt’s assessment that the GOP wouldn’t stand a chance against Hillary in 2016 and thought “well, if we don’t stand a chance, maybe we should use this as a transition period to a new party.”
Somehow I kind of remember that the Republican party was formed out of some of the Whig people. But then, my adage is: “You’ll always meet someone smarter than you and learn from it”
On Election Night, once it was locked for Obama, I went out and pulled my American flag down. It's now folded up in a plastic box in the laundry room. Proudly flying in place of it is the Irish tricolor.
For the rest of America's days, future presidents will be decided in the democrat primary. Republicans are relegated to regional politics. Americans have shown for the past two national elections they don't want Republicans in the White House, unless by special invitation.
I don't think the republicans were ever a third party, when they formed in 1854, the Whigs were only 22 years old.
The republicans simply replaced the Whigs, two years after they first met in 1854, John Fremont came in second in the 1856 presidential race, the know Nothings third party came in a distant third with 8 electoral votes. The Whigs were pre civil war America, the party only lasted 22 years itself (1833 to 1856). The Republicans held their first convention on July 6, 1854 and four months later held 19% of the Congress and 25% of the Senate, six years later they held the majority in the Congress, the majority in the Senate, and they had the Presidency. The Republicans were never really a third party at all.
The two trends have gone hand in hand in recent years. Why that is, I don't know.
People who are more ideological have easier-to-press hot buttons. Among other metiers, lobbyists are good button-pushers.
But so are professional politicians. If a lobbyist relied on button-pushing when lobbying politicians, he'd just be scoffed at and no elected politician would take him seriously.
The Republicans are big bad spenders, but just the same as the rats?
As I recall, the rats pushed Mengelecare through without a single GOP vote..
The author is over the top here.
Every single democrat in Congress voted for Obamacare.
Not a single Republican in Congress voted for Obamacare
The threat is the democrat party and always has been . They want to enslave us and own us, including our healthcare which they have, the maggots
The democrat party is the threat to our freedom and to our ability to survive. The democrats want to give government ownership of every single piece of property you have (now they have done it with your healthcare) but they want it all .that is their goal to enslave us for Obama and the government to own everything including you , your life , and every piece of land , business , everything. that is socialism and has always been the goal of democrat party and the media (the democrat party also. The media has ruled this country for 100 years. Democrats did a lot of their socialism with FDR and its socialist revolution . now their crown jewel is Obamacare
The main weapon of the democrats/socialists is their mainstream media with which they have ruled this country for 100 years at least. The media has supreme control of this country and has for at least 100 years. The media create a false reality. The democrats and the media wanted government control of healthcare because now they can control our healthcare and so every aspect of our lives and turn over a huge part of the economy over to the government which will make the U.S. a socialist country. Now you all will get to collect your healthcare info and report it to the IRS in 2013
>> The party provides structureit can and should be reformed by those of us within.
Damn straight. But not sure only by those from within.
Every community throughout the Country should work on carving out the GOP rot therein. It should be a coordinated effort.
Your original post said “The Whig party became the Republican party,” indicating you believe the GOP grew out of the Whig party. That’s not true, and that’s the point I was trying to make.
“The republicans simply replaced the Whigs...”
I would agree with that. But, the important point is that the Republican party was not just a renamed Whig party.
My post was 49, you are quoting SkyDancer, who I was disagreeing with.
GOP - bury it with a shovel, then bury the shovel.
