I agree with her that the republic is dead. Historians trace the death of the Roman republic to Julius Caesar when he crossed the Rubicon river to engage in Civil War. I think historians will trace the end of our republic to the day in 2008 that the SCOTUS did not look into the eligibility of Obama, which was their job. They didn’t do it because they feared the political consequences. The SCOTUS has been granted lifetime employment for that very reason, that they wouldn’t need to consider political consequences in upholding the constitution. They failed our republic.

Compare the current state of affairs to the conditions that caused the Framers to rebel. From the Declaration of Independence:
The history of the present King of Great Britain is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny over these States. To prove this, let Facts be submitted to a candid world.
  • He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.
  • He has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his Assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them.
  • He has refused to pass other Laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of Representation in the Legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only.
  • He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their public Records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures.

  • For taking away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws, and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments:
  • For suspending our own Legislatures, and declaring themselves invested with power to legislate for us in all cases whatsoever.
  • He has abdicated Government here, by declaring us out of his Protection and waging War against us.
  • He has plundered our seas, ravaged our Coasts, burnt our towns, and destroyed the lives of our people.
  • He is at this time transporting large Armies of foreign Mercenaries to compleat the works of death, desolation and tyranny, already begun with circumstances of Cruelty & perfidy scarcely paralleled in the most barbarous ages, and totally unworthy the Head of a civilized nation.
  • He has constrained our fellow Citizens taken Captive on the high Seas to bear Arms against their Country, to become the executioners of their friends and Brethren, or to fall themselves by their Hands.
  • He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us, and has endeavoured to bring on the inhabitants of our frontiers, the merciless Indian Savages, whose known rule of warfare, is an undistinguished destruction of all ages, sexes and conditions.
In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A Prince whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.
Now, let's extrapolate that list of complaints to a hypothetical country in some parallel universe that is in its own 21st Century and that is roughly modeled on our present-day America. Are the denizens of that hypothetical world there yet; i.e. are they at the same breaking point that the Framers were in 1776? Not even close, though the definition of 'close' depends on how fast their King Hussein wants to move things along in that direction. They may wake up one morning and find he has moved with breathtaking speed overnight.

The thing our budding hypothetical resistance in the alternate universe lacks, which the Framers had in spades, is leadership -- both in the political and military spheres. For instance, has the main conservative party in this parallel world opposed their President Zilch "with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people?" Don't make me laugh. A Congressman named Boner? Furthermore, is there a large cadre of brilliant military minds with impressive West Point pedigrees and plenty of battlefield victories under their belts, publicly pronouncing they'll support a hypothetical limited-government resistance? No. In this hypothetical world, only one general has said anything about it. Do not think for a moment that those poor unfortunate, tyrannized, hypothetical folks can win without that. They cannot. Both the Framers and the Confederacy had lots of impressive military and political leaders, yet victory was far from certain. Our hypothetical conservative Flatlanders have neither -- just like the real world on which they are modeled.

That's why I get so irritated at people who say things like, "from my cold dead hands... blah, blah, blah," as if they think that'll stop tyrants. Yeah, right... What are you going to do, make your last stand on your front porch, while seated in your rocking chair, and sacrifice your life? For what, a gun? Either you believe gun control is a totally hopeless endeavor and guns will always be available, or you do not. If they come for your guns, best let them have whatever you have in the house (hopefully, you've cached most of them by now anyway, right?) and live to fight another day.

One can always replace a gun, but is worth nothing to a hypothetical resistance if he is dead and mouldering in the ground.

I clicked over to YouTube and fhought Jeez, over an hour long. Thought I’d check it out for a few minutes, and it was like riding a surfboard...all I could do was hang on! Watched it all...like an hour long slap in the face, but what a wakeup call. I’ve been on “tax strike” since the “putsch” and ditched my TV before the analog switch.
