A Ray of Hope in Pbama's Downsizing of America
Michelle Obama's Mirror ^ | 12-2-2012 | MOTUS

I went Christmas shopping yesterday, butt I didn’t buy anything. All the hubbub and pandemonium seemed to interfere with my circuits rendering me incapable of completing any transactions. Just as well, as everything I saw looked unsuitable for human consumption.

I just couldn’t get into the spirit of the season so I stopped to have a cuppa Joe and watch the world go by. What I noticed going by, other than inordinately tight jeans on both men and women was a lot of people toting big red bags from the American Girl store. I don’t know if you’re familiar, butt American Girl dolls represent every period in American history and come with their own story books (and wardrobes, of course).

Who knew that in the age of iPods and iPhones girls still pined for dolls! And uniquely American dolls at that.(snip)

One of the little girls was toting her Julie doll, a hippie-era character from the 1970’s:

And another was toting her Kirsten Larson doll, a young Swedish girl whose family immigrated to America in the mid-1800s and moved to Minnesota:

(snip)Since Big Guy has pretty much sealed the deal on a downsized America(snip)all indications are that we are now in reverse.(snip)

The old American Dream:R.I.P. McMansions: 1988-2008

The new American Dream:A tiny house in Washington D.C.’s alley community of Stronghold

Don’t drink the Kool-Aid, it may well cause you to shrink...Continued

I’m wondering if we can have a living standard we had back in the 1970’s.

As far as living standards go the 1970s was the peak of America. It has been stagnate to downhill ever since. In order to get back to that we would have to fix the marriage problem where instead of two people combining incomes and expenses, we now have two divorced adults living in two separate locations with two separate expenses, and keeping incomes apart. Plus we would have to go back to having high wage jobs that can't be outsourced, and a better education system.

Check your Family Dollar weekly ads. It’s all about Kenya dolls of different sizes. Boob belts and all.

I remember Chuck Harder on his “For the People” program said that in the 1990’s up until he retired around 2009 or so where we’ve been declining since 1973. Robert J. Ringer, noted libertarian, made a good point in one of his news letters I subscribe to were the economic collapse was supposed to happen around 1985/90 but was delayed by President Reagan’s economic policies as well as the 1980’s computer boom that went into the 1990’s internet boom that lasted until 2007 or so.
