History lesson here for shallow, reality-TV-generation
'progressive' idiots who think socialism's cool
(no worries- there's pictures)
East Germany (DDR = Deutsche Demokratische Republik)
blamed capitalists for everything,
nationalized industry,
suppressed dissent,
and did it all the name of the 'common man'
-sound familiar, Obammunist tools?
 |
Stasi chief Erich Meilke (center) oversaw 1M full-time officers and 500K part-time informants. Their loyalty lay 100% with the Communist Party, and the utterly ruthless and unaccountable organization had it's tentacles stuck-into every element of society: it was said one in every 63 DDR citizens was a Stasi informant... in other words, you couldn't afford to trust anybody. |
 |
Officially atheist East Germany destroyed Christian faith in their people- today only 5% attend church in the former DDR |
 |
Youth group FDJ encouraged 'sacrifice' for the regime |
Any protesting the putrid East German regime often paid with their lives or served long sentences while being tortured daily by twisted Stasi guards in filthy political prisons.
Appallingly, over 100 East Germans were shot dead while attempting to flee the glorious 'workers' and peasants' state'.
By any measure, once proud and world-beating German workers in Soviet Zone were reduced to uncompetitive socialist serfs with little to show for their efforts but a 500 sq. ft. concrete apartment in a high-rise block with a lovely view of... all the other concrete high-rise apartment blocks.
So why do so many Americans feel an ongoing desire for Obama's reckless socialist experiment when the German example should be all any thinking person would ever need?
The saying in the Soviet-dominated eastern block used to go
'If anybody can make socialism work, it's the Germans!'... well, that depends on your definition of 'work': by the 1980s -after four decades laboring for sparse reward- the German people of the DDR only made 40% of West German GDP per person... or, meaning a German in the west averaged 250% of what was earned in socialist East Germany- not to mention the almost complete lack of freedom, human rights, and opportunity.
And despite $1.2 TRILLION spent since unification to try and get the former DDR up to speed- some see the societal and economic damage done to eastern Germany as permanent.
East Germany was heavily subsidized by the Soviets for 40 years, and was long known as the 'leading' economic performer of the COMECON communist trading block... in other words, well supported by foreign aid, and the best the socialist world had.
Alas, the DDR was still a joke...
_______________________________________________________________________
East Germany and the Soviets misled the world, claiming East Germany was modern and advanced, yet when West Germany finally pulled the lid off, almost everything turned out to be outmoded or unusable: a poor telecommunication system, wretched cars, labor ignorant of computers or basic office devices, World War II infrastructure still unrepaired...

Upon the fall of the Iron Curtain, it was discovered that environmental pollution was so severe that children had to be taken out to the country during Summer to hold down the asthma epidemic.
Odd when you consider that socialists are universally environmentalist whack-jobs.

it was said one in every 63 DDR citizens was a Stasi informant... in other words, you couldn't afford to trust anybody. I wonder what the ratio is, in the good old USA. Over here, if you get into legal trouble, one option commonly offered you is to identify people for police attention, or to become an informant and actively get info on others. This is what happened to Randy Weaver. You can look up what happened to him at Ruby Ridge when he turned down the FBI's offer to be their informant.

Why the hell did tens of thousands of East Germans risk their lives to cross the border to freedom?
There I said it!

shallow, reality-TV-generation 'progressive' idiots who think socialism's cool Most of those idiots don't even know what socialism is. I saw a man-on-the-street thing once, where the interviewer asked young people whether they agree with socialism. Many of them actually thought that socialism meant free enterprise and that capitalism was where the government controlled the economy. In other words, they didn't have a clue.

Socialism! Need Pictures! Why not experience it, visit Michigan - saginaw, detroit, flint, battle creek, benton harbor(notice first MI city to have to utilize Emerency Financial Management Power).
Yes, I live in Michigan and I see it on a regular basis.
Here in the UP of Michigan - welfare is the prominent income. that is right - welfare income.
just thought some FReepers might want to see socialism ( failed democratic and union leadership - shared misery)

I honestly have driven a Trabant, I know a guy who imported one into CA on a 90 day EPA pass and then just sent it to the crusher
Sounded like a sewing maching, smoked like a chimney

I have actually seen several of them in action, in the Socialist State of Norway, long ago.
Not very popular. But novel in being made of plastic.
Cars were actually rationed in Norway up to the sixties. You had to apply, and then you might get a permission to buy.

I display this photo in my office for a reason. When young colleagues ask me about it, I find myself conducting an impromptu history class. It breaks the heart to realize no one in their generation was told of the horrors of socialism; of the people gunned down, executed simply for seeking freedom in the West. None of them familiar with the most iconic photograph of the Cold War period; completely ignorant of the brutality of the Eastern Bloc. "You are now leaving the American Sector" indeed.
"You extol the virtues of communism because you have never been forced to live under it." - Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn

socialism is unnatural and abnormal. Taking from one person and giving to another is unnatural and abnormal, even if the socialists say it’s OK. Seizing private property is unnatural and abnormal. At some point, the people begin to rebel. Then the power elite steps up the repression and control.
In the USA, half of the people are brain-dead and will never rebel.

I remember that photo.
Not sure the likes of the NYT would see fit to publish it these days, however.

“In the USA, half of the people are brain-dead and will never rebel.”
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
I actually think sometimes that the TV series “THE WALKING DEAD” is on some level a metaphor for the walking brain-dead.
When you meet a forty year old who actually tells you in a serious deadpan tone that Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton were two of our greatest presidents and that Obama is doing a wonderful job you KNOW you are really in the world of the walking brain dead.
To: Reaganite Republican
I have long thought East Germany was Obama’s ideal of how the US should look. History may event be repeated when Obama gives us a “green” government designed people’s car to rival the infamous Trabant.

Odd when you consider that socialists are universally environmentalist whack-jobs. Yeah, it is rather ironic, isn't it... I was in eastern Germany in 1990 and saw green toxic matter in creeks and streams everywhere... not to mention the nastiness dealt to the Elbe River. Communists were the worst ecological violators on the face of the earth.
