One of the tragedies of Hurricane Sandy, in addition to the enormous human and material cost it has exacted from our city, is the misery which the chronic inefficiency and incompetence of our government has wrought.
From the economically incoherent and historically ignorant institution of price controls to the resuscitation of policies as intellectually vapid as the men who impose them, the specter of the state making the lives of those already suffering even more unbearable is everywhere.
Even the federal bureaucracies established to ostensibly aid people who have been the victims of natural disasters are woefully incapable of executing even the most elementary aspects of their missions. No one grasps this concept more acutely than the residents of Staten Island, who have seen firsthand why relying upon the generosity of government bureaucrats is such a risky proposition.

And why should I care about people who voted for a man who is going to destroy MY way of life. At least they already had theirs destroyed so they have nothing left to lose. Less pain ahead.
I think they should contract out catastrophe services to private vendors. They can use several in each area. I think local companies might better provide for food, water, shelter for victims of such tragedies.
The goal of FEMA was to get the administration the accolades for a successful response, NOT to actually have a successful response. Thus the Obama photo op in NJ. Now he’s gone and the people are still without power, heat, clean water, food, fuel. But the national media won’t investigate this, unless they can blame the failure on Bush.
Then and only then will many Americans realize that big government reallt cannot provide all they have promised! Will be interesting to see who has the guts to shut down this government and stop feeding the beast!
Shut down big oil, big tobbacco, coal, power plants, brewreys, resturants, construction companies, manufactures, every private bisnesses in America and then we will see who provides the wealth in this Nation!
Until Americans are will to take drastic action to change the direction of this Nation, nothing is going to be done and will end our nation as we all know it today!
We are Americans, we are the government, damn it, stand up and take on this leviathon!!!!!
Sandys lesson is right before your eyes just as it was with Katrina; You either prepare and stand on your own or you can depend on a bunch of self-serving politicos, third class bureaucratic and chance to provide your for your survival.
Me I dont want to be beholden to anyone for providing what is needed for me and mine. I certainly dont want to have to kiss some gubberment third class bureaucratic to try and coax some help from them, I dont want some jack booted thug herding me in line and telling me where to stand, sit, eat or sleep. And last but not least I dont want to be shut up in with a bunch of zombies and have to worry about not only trying to get basic necessities but having to fight to keep what I manage to get.
Its your choice you can prep or you can stand around on a bridge waiting for FEMA to bring you a bottle of water, a MRE, a warm blanket and a kiss for your boo-boo. Maybe while you stand there you will get a chance to a prop in some politicos photo op and even get your picture on the national news.
For those who are just starting or are old hands at prepping you may find my Preparedness Manual helpfull. You can download it at:
http://tomeaker.com/kart/Preparedness1j.pdf
NOTE! THIS IS A FREE DOWNLOAD. I DO NOT MAKE ONE CENT OFF MY PREPAREDNESS MANUAL!
For those of you who havent started already its time to prepare almost past time maybe. You needed to be stocking up on food guns, ammo, basic household supplies like soap, papergoods, cleaning supplies, good sturdy clothes including extra socks, underwear and extra shoes and boots, gas cans, cooking stove/fuel, tools, things you buy everyday start buying two and put one up.
As the LDS say When the emergency is upon us the time for preparedness has past.
Or as the bible says: A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it.
NIV Proverbs 22:3

There is no greater disaster than to underestimate danger.
Underestimation can be fatal.
I;m waiting for the Staten Island residents to get out in front of the cameras and yell “Barack Obama hates White People”...

FEMA is too busy with this stuff to bother with victims of natural disasters:
Homeland Security graduates first Corps of Homeland Youth

DHS FEMA Armored Fighting Vehicles

The only thing missing was a photo-op with Slow Joe saying how good Sandy was for the economy. Did any sane person actually believe that FEMA would actually do anything useful. Remember, the “M” in FEMA means management and management in the Federal Government means sitting on your a$$ and doing as little as possible unless there is a photo-op where you can take credit for something some other charity has actually done.

Why should you care?
That's a very human thought.
On the grasping hand, God did command us to pray for our enemies. Feed our enemies.
That's just biblical. It may not matter to you.
As for me and my house... I'll extend Christian kindness as I am required to do.
I don't have to like them, or the orders... I just have to do it.

I have read some pretty horrible and sad stories of government incompetence in the handling of damage from Sandy. It boils down to people being considered numbers in the minds of FEMA and the like. Their humanity has been forgotten.
On a personal note: I believe you have the potential to be the next Breitbart. Keep it up, OddLane (Bhmie)!
Howya, sweetie! I was wondering how you were doing ... access to electricity somehow, I see. Anoreth is huddling in Cape May with her extremely furry dog, bitching about how it’s not the South.
How is it in Cape May? Were many of those lovely old houses lost or damaged?
She hasn’t said. Flooding was significant at the Coast Guard base, but I don’t know what the winds were like. One of Anoreth’s roommates stayed in their rental house through the storm, so the damage wherever that’s at wasn’t significant.

Here you go, “Damage Minimal,” says the Mayor. Just flooding.
If you shut down all the businesses, government could not do anything. Government is not a primary producer. It is a primary consumer.
